ith environmental regulations tightening and energy costs continuing to rise, contractors and end-users in industrial

refrigeration need refrigeration solutions that combine effi ciency, reliability, and compliance with future requirements. Bitzer’s award-winning ammonia compressor pack

(ACP) range delivers this in the form of a plug-and- play cooling solution designed to meet the highest demands of modern industrial and commercial refrigeration. The EU’s latest F-gas Regulation (EU 573/2024) is accelerating the industry’s transition away from high-GWP refrigerants toward sustainable alternatives. Ammonia off ers zero global warming potential (GWP) and zero ozone depletion potential (ODP), with exceptional thermodynamic properties that make it one of the most energy-effi cient refrigerants available, capable of delivering high cooling capacity with minimal environmental impact. By using ammonia as standard across all ACP models, Bitzer ensures that customers are fully equipped for a low-carbon future. Whether for food processing, cold storage, ice rinks, leisure applications, or process cooling, ACP systems provide a reliable, future-proof solution that is already aligned with the next generation of environmental standards. The ACP range is based on Bitzer’s long- established OS.A85 and OS.A95 open-drive screw compressor technology, developed through decades of experience in natural refrigerant applications. These compressors are known for their outstanding effi ciency, low life-cycle costs, and operational reliability. Each ACP unit is fully factory-assembled, electrically pre-wired, and pressure-tested before delivery. This ensures the highest standards of safety, leak-tightness, and build quality, while signifi cantly reducing installation time and on-site commissioning complexity.

The modularity of the ACP range, with 54 diff erent model variants available, means systems can be matched to application requirements.

Contractors can install ACP units quickly with minimal pipework and electrical connections, enabling faster project turnaround and lower costs. The modularity of the ACP range, with 54 diff erent model variants available, means systems can be precisely matched to application requirements. Units can incorporate up to three compressors within a single pack, providing capacity fl exibility and built-in redundancy. If one compressor requires maintenance, others can remain fully operational, minimising downtime and ensuring uninterrupted cooling for critical processes.

Energy effi ciency Effi ciency is at the heart of ACP design. Integrated variable speed drives (VSD) allow the lead compressor’s speed to be continuously adjusted to match real-time cooling demand. This maximises part-load effi ciency and enables soft- start functionality, reducing electrical stress and extending equipment life. Moreover, ACP units can be fi tted with an economiser module, improving system effi ciency under high load conditions. The advanced OAHC three-stage horizontal oil separator – standard on all ACP packs – minimises oil carryover to as low as 2 to 5 ppm, further boosting operational effi ciency and protecting downstream components. and low life-cycle costs in mind. Screw compressors off er longer maintenance intervals compared to reciprocating designs, while the modular layout allows technicians easy access to valves, sensors, and connections during servicing. In addition, ACP units feature Bitzer’s IQ Module with Modbus integration and Bluetooth connectivity, enabling real-time monitoring, simplifi ed commissioning, and preventive maintenance via digital tools such as the BEST software and app. This combination of robust design and smart technology ensures maximum uptime and predictable operating costs.

Since their introduction, ACP systems have been successfully deployed across the UK in applications ranging from food manufacturing plants to large-scale cold storage warehouses. End users consistently report improved energy effi ciency, lower maintenance requirements, and simplifi ed installation compared to conventional on-site built systems. The reliability and fl exibility of ACP technology make it particularly suited to industries where cooling continuity and product integrity are critical. With energy effi ciency and environmental compliance now top priorities for businesses, Bitzer’s ACP range provides a proven, ready-to-go solution.
