ENERGY SAVING EQUIPMENT
COP 26 call to action
Aermec’s international sales director Luigi Rossettini hopes the HVAC industry will be inspired by COP 26 and do more to reduce energy usage and emissions.
L
ast year’s COP 26 saw delegates from across the globe come together in a bid to keep the temperature goal of 1.5°C on track, but what does this mean for the HVAC industry and can we do more?
There were many messages coming out of Glasgow. Antonio Guterres, UN Secretary General spoke for many when he said that “There is confusion over emissions reductions… different meanings and different metrics.” But what is indisputable is that our industry needs to step up with more actions taken to mitigate against ‘greenwashing’ and that help us to use less energy. What’s required is a robust framework.
The HVAC industry has been proactive and innovative. Innovation is recognised and showcased at industry awards, year after year, with tangible energy savings and reductions in emissions. But the industry cannot afford to be complacent, so much more can be achieved. Barack Obama commented at COP 26 that tackling climate change will help businesses win customers and “companies are starting to figure out that becoming energy efficient is better for their bottom line.”

efficiencies for four key products by 2030, air conditioners being one of them.
The key message for our industry is to act now. We need to be able to stand up to scrutiny. Only by being innovative and using all the tools at our disposal can the HVAC industry play a key part in carbon reduction and we have plenty of levers that can help curb emissions.
Many of the manufacturers in the HVAC industry are concentrating their investment and efforts on units with new refrigerants and developing products that are more efficient following the minimum legal requirements. This is not enough. There are still products being produced with lower efficiencies as well as markets and countries using high GWP refrigerants.
From its inception Aermec decided to do more than design innovative products. We were proactive. We took the decision not to manufacture inefficient units but continually innovate delivering the best technologies and solutions that would in turn help our customers make choices that had less of an environmental impact.
Cost is all too frequently the main driver. We work collaboratively with our customers and help them make informed choices because being more energy efficient is good
