200x40.indd 1 Mitsubishi Heavy Industries
High-effi ciency air conditioning systems from Mitsubishi Heavy Industries (MHI) have transformed comfort levels for customers and staff at a relaunched builders’ merchant/DIY store and retail centre in Devon. Beijer Ref UK supplied contractor Kirton Air Conditioning with seven 10kW MHI ceiling cassettes, served by four outdoor units, as part of the upgrade at CMC Eakers, in Crediton.
The business was founded in 1975 by Terry Eakers, a local builder, initially to supply his trade friends. Over the years, it grew into a full-scale builders’ merchant and home improvement centre, off ering a wide range of products and services, along with expert advice and specialist support. In 2024, Eakers was purchased by Crediton Milling Company, which undertook a major renovation ahead of relaunching the business to include a new retail fl oor with a café and a barber shop. Ashley Cann, founder and Director of Crediton-based Kirton Air Conditioning, designed a solution comprising one 10kW split system for the barber shop, two twin-split systems (4x10kW cassettes) in the open plan store area, and one twin split system (2x10kW cassettes) in the new café. The cassettes are installed with a high-quality ‘industrial’ spec fi nish, due to the absence of a ceiling grid to hide pipework, etc.
Cann said: “I have been installing MHI systems into commercial
projects for 10 years, and I’ve only ever been back to perform routine maintenance. For alternative manufacturers of the same price bracket, there is no comparison for reliability. Not to mention the availability and communication have always been excellent. It’s a well-made, robust product that can be trusted. “The systems are performing beyond expectations, and the customer is happy with the fl exibility they provide. The café area can be kept at a comfortable temperature for customers, while the shop fl oor can be left to range slightly, but kept within limits. The barber shop functions as an independent system, which they’re also happy with.’’

Star Refrigeration 1/9/25 13:58
Star Refrigeration has unveiled Azanechiller 3.0, the latest evolution of its low-charge ammonia chiller, setting a new standard for industrial cooling effi ciency and sustainability.
Designed and manufactured in the UK, Azanechiller 3.0 exceeds EcoDesign energy effi ciency targets by up to 110%, using up to 52% less electricity than standard models. It outperforms UK competitors by as much as 20% in Seasonal Energy Performance Ratio (SEPR), making it the most effi cient low-charge, air-cooled ammonia chiller on the industrial market. Capable of operating across a temperature range of -20°C to +25°C and cooling capacities up to 1,600kW, the plug-and- play chiller is suitable for food processing, pharmaceuticals, data centres, ice rinks and temperature-controlled storage. Engineered for resilience, it off ers a 25+ year lifespan and robust safety features, including portable safety showers, enclosed electrics, and optional access ladders. Environmentally, the Azanechiller 3.0 is future-proof in that it is F-gas and PFAS regulation-exempt with a low ammonia charge (0.18kg/kW), and optimised for ambient temperatures up to 40°C. The system is also Ethos-ready, allowing real-time AI-based data analysis and energy optimisation. Azanechiller 3.0 aims to deliver a reliable, energy-effi cient, and sustainable cooling solution that supports businesses on their journey to Net Zero.
