Slitting & Rewinding

Stability and knife control for better slitting E

spo has developed an alternative to the top section in traditional

double shaſt slitting systems in the form of the Genius 030 knifeholder. Derived from Espo pneumatic

knifeholders, and capable of slitting a minimum 30mm, the Genius 030 consists of a one-piece body, a sliding bracket for the S-type rail and a superior plate where there is a graduated knob for the cant angle setting. The double bearing directly mounted into the body allows a higher speed and the patented pre-loaded flange maximise the stability and control of the knife for better slitting performances.

Other features, similar to Espo’s pneumatic knifeholders, are the quick left and right positioning and the possibility to swap from shear cut to razor cut just by the flange substitution.

AN AFFORDABLE OPTION The Genius 030 mounts a double bevel dished knife with an external diameter of 105mm and in operation it will no longer be necessary to remove the whole shaft for knife substitution. This is simply achieved by just locking the flange and untightening the central screw on the selected units to change the knives. This knifeholder is an optimal solution

The Genius 030 in action here, and on the right

to improve existing double shaft slitting rewinders, offering an affordable investment and quick payback. It is a viable option for OEMs as it is ready and compatible with laser-pointing systems. In order to have a ready-to-use system, it is possible to include the related positioning system composed of the support cross bar system with manual or pneumatic movements. Espo and Jarshire, its UK and Ireland supplier company, continue to strengthen their cooperation by offering a well-rounded package, including the full range of Espo slitting equipment together with a rebuild and overhaul facility to upgrade winding/rewinding

and slitting machines. Additionally, from Jarshire, a local, fast and comprehensive blades and anvils sharpening and maintenance service is available. All production of blades, slitting

systems and pneumatic knifeholders is done internally at Espo. www.jarshire.co.uk

Renova brakes – always a disc ahead R

enova has addressed the problem of high brake operating temperatures that, when not eficiently dissipated, cause the

loss of the web tension consistency, resulting in excessive component wear and dust pollution as well as higher production and maintenance costs. With the company’s patented Turborex multi-disc brake, a double fan cooling and ventilation system contribute to a massive reduction in operating temperatures ensuring the discs and pads do not overheat, thereby maintaining tension consistency at any line speed and roll diameter. By virtue of its multidisc system - three to four discs of 180mm - the

pressure is distributed on eight surfaces (or six if only three discs are used) and the reduction of the disc diameter to 180mm guarantees a drop of circa 30 per cent of the sliding speed of the friction materials, bringing a reduction of the heat to be dissipated. The airflow is well distributed between the discs and the cooling systems works perfectly well on all surfaces. Overall, two important benefits derive; firstly, a significant decrease in

dust pollution on the working area and, secondly, considerable reduction of maintenance requirements, resulting in an increase in machine eficiency and running time. UK agent, Jarshire, says that Turborex is 100 per cent interchangeable with all existing brakes and is expected to perform for 42,000 working hours under extreme conditions (300 mt/min, 24 hours). The brakes achieve high torque, together with minimal wear and heat generation, results that were not previously possible. Renova is an Italian manufacturer and supplier of web tension control

systems and roll handling systems. It was founded in 2005 by Gianpiero Re, designer in the 1980s of the CX mono-disk brake series that featured a new

fan ventilation, allowing the temperature to lower quicker than previously. Subsequently, this technology became the reference for thousands of applications in the converting industry.
