sales training: Samsung

Inspiration and entertainment S

Samsung Electronics UK head of training for TV and AV Rob Smith advises using demo content in-store to show off the best of the latest TV technology

amsung would like to inspire people. A TV is not just a box in the corner of a customer’s room,

and entertainment in the home is not a product, but an inspired solution we all have the privilege to sell. We all dream of lifelike picture quality, a

more personalised and expressive solution that fits our lifestyle, whilst making our lives smarter, richer and more valuable. At Samsung, we’re focusing on making the

customer’s experience as immersive and true- to-life as possible with our recently launched QLED TV range. The latest Quantum Dot technology offers dramatically improved colour performance, as QLED is the only TV that can reproduce 100 percent colour volume* at any brightness level, which is no mean feat when you're able to hit 1500-2000 nits. It’s an exciting year for us, as Hollywood studios and content providers like Netflix and Amazon are changing how movies and boxsets are created. Not only by adding more dramatic light levels to enhance production, or by using 4K UHD resolution, but also by employing

With large screens, consumers are also interested in the premium design credentials and aesthetic of their TV

game changing High Dynamic Range (HDR) technology to bring the creator’s dream to life. Now customers are demanding a TV that displays content exactly as the creator intended, and we have that with QLED. New advances in Quantum Dot technology enables Samsung QLED TVs to produces the purest, brightest light, creating the ideal canvas for the most naturally realistic colours. HDR works in tandem with the human eye, concentrating on contrast in darker areas and creating distinguishing subtle colour differences in brighter areas. QLED TVs use HDR 10 technology to express the ultimate range of brightness, so you can see details even in the lightest and darkest areas of the image. It is important that customers can

experience not only the great image on the TV, but also get to experience how the no gap wall mount and near invisible cable can transform a customer’s living space, creating possibilities

to wall mount when customers would have never even considered this before. We need to inspire and generate demand for premium experiences, around a complete solution. Samsung Q style solution makes this possible. When a customer comes into a store to buy

a new TV, it may have been some years since they last looked at the technology, and there may be acronyms and technical terms that they are unfamiliar with. Identifying where they are in the customer journey and listening to them is essential here. I am a great believer in explaining the benefits rather than just listing off features. In-store, retailers should be both educating

customers and bringing to life the visual and audio benefits of the products available. Using the QLED’s built in demo content as part of the sell is hugely beneficial, as it works best to show these benefits. Being demo-ready is so important to help your customer see the full benefits of each device. The following stained glass-window analogy

is a great technique to explain Q colour to prospective customers: consider a stained- glass window. Without light, we are unable to witness the full extent of the incredible image within the window. At night, with darkness behind the glass, very little of the colour is visible. However, it is only when sunlight shines through the window that the full stunning effect of the colourful elements are revealed. It is the same with a TV - where picture quality depends greatly on light. Samsung’s new, advanced Quantum Dot technology delivers the purest light source through a genuine RGB pixel structure and turns light into colour. It’s also essential that customers are aware of complementing technology, to give them the ultimate entertainment experience. This could include offering them a matching UHD Blu-ray player to watch all the latest films on, or a soundbar for crystal clear audio, so they can recreate the magic of cinema in their own homes. The Samsung Academy (www. samsungacademy.co.uk) is also updated on a weekly basis with training modules, how-to videos and sales tips, so retailers can keep on top of all the latest information.
