IER Awards celebrating excellence for 25 years
The electrical retail industry’s most innovative gathered to celebrate at the 25th Innovative Electrical Retailing Awards on March 30
M
arch 30 saw nearly 200 guests from the electrical retailing industry come together at the five
star Chelsea Harbour Hotel in London to celebrate hard work and success across the sector. Organised by Datateam Business Media,
the Innovative Electrical Retailing Awards are designed to recognise achievements in the industry, ranging from the best technical innovation for consumer electronics to best independent retailers of large domestic appliances. Marking the IER Awards’ 25th Anniversary, the ceremony was a glamorous event attended by hundreds of people in the electrical retailing industry. Guests were greeted with an exclusive
drinks reception, sponsored by EPE Group, offering the opportunity to network with colleagues and peers, before proceeding into the main hall for the first half of the award presentations. Hosted by IER editor Gregor Muir and ‘Voice of the Balls’ Alan Dedicoat, the first half of the ceremony honoured the efforts of independent electrical retailers. The first award of the night, Best Small
Independent Retailer - Consumer Electronics, went to Moss of Bath. Best Large Independent Retailer - Consumer Electronics was won by Avensys Ltd, while Best Small Independent Retailer - Domestic Appliances, sponsored by Beko, went to Wellingtons Home Electrical. Both Basil Knipe Electrics and Borshch Electric were the deserving winners of the Best Large
Independent Retailer - Domestic Appliances award, sponsored by Beko, while the Best Independent Kitchen Retailer Showroom award, sponsored by Montpellier, went to Stellisons. Purewell won Best Independent Retailer Superstore Showroom, sponsored by GDHA (Glen Dimplex Home Appliances). Next up was the Best Retailer Website,
sponsored by Electrical Safety First, which went to Moss of Bath, while Wellingtons Home Electrical was awarded Best Customer Service. Stellisons was named Best Regional Multiple Retailer. The deserving winner of the Best Young Gun Award, sponsored by retra & retracare was Ross Braybrook of Avensys, while the Best IER Retailer Award, sponsored by the Sirius Buying Group, was scooped up by Avensys Ltd. Attendees then enjoyed a sumptuous
three course meal, before playing a game of heads and tails and raising £705 for Demelza Children’s Hospice. The second half of the proceedings was dedicated to manufacturers and all of their hard work across the industry. Best Technical Innovation - Consumer
Electronics went to Samsung for the UE65KS9500 TV. Best Technical Innovation - Major Domestic Appliances was won by AEG for its built-in ovens with Steambake, while the Best Technical Innovation - Small Domestic Appliances award went to Kitchenaid for the magnetic drive blender. The Bluetooth adaptor for Stream 931 from Roberts Radio was the deserving winner of Best Accessory - Consumer Electronics, whilst the Best Accessory - Domestic Appliances award
went to Smeg for the BTG01 Bottle-To-Go. The iRobot Roomba 980 Robot Vacuum from Witt won Best Floorcare Product. Best Training - Consumer Electronics went to the Samsung TV and AV Team, whilst Beko plc was awarded Best Training - Major Domestic Appliances. Best Training - Small Domestic Appliances went to Magimix. The winner of the Best UHD TV Award, sponsored by ASTRA, was the UE65KS9500 TV from Samsung, whilst the Best Company Representative Award went to Terri Banks of Zanussi. George Ruff of Samsung was the deserving winner of the Best Industry Trainer Award, whilst the Best Distributor Award went to D.A.D. (Domestic Appliance Distributors). The final award of the night, the Lifetime Achievement Award, sponsored by Blomberg, was awarded to John Reddington. The awards were brought to a close with a well-deserved recognition of special projects and events manager Linda Dorling for her services and dedication to the electrical retailing industry for over 25 years. A fantastic night was rounded up with entertainment from the Beatin’ Hearts and a final chance to network with clients, colleagues and friends. Gregor Muir said: “Many congratulations to all of the winners and highly commended at the IER Awards 2017. It was a hugely enjoyable evening, and my thanks go to the whole team behind the scenes. I hope all who attended enjoyed themselves, and are already planning on how they can take home a trophy next year.” Linda Dorling commented: “I am delighted with the engagement from members of the electrical retailing industry at this year’s IER Awards. This year has been a tremendous success and our guests had a fantastic time. The Awards have evolved year on year and we’re really pleased to see the event grow every time.
