Play powerLottery and make a difference R
etirement is traditionally the time when people stop working – but they do not stop living. And although for
some, retirement can be seen as a new chapter in life, for others it can bring a host of new challenges. Growing older also brings with it the potential
for illness and disability. It is currently, estimated that 40% of all people aged over 65 in the UK have limiting longstanding illness which brings a lot more difficulties to their day to day life. The Electrical Industries Charity recognises the
need for a support network for our elderly colleagues in the industry and has launched the Pensioner Support programme, which provides more than a safety net to people in need. This programme is an enabler for a safer, healthier and more independent retired life. A significant number of our retired colleagues
left the industry relatively early in the fallout of the 1980-1990 recessionary period. Since then,
By Tessa Ogle, Managing Director of the Electrical Industries Charity
the trends have largely reversed, keeping people in employment longer, except in instances where ill health or disability is a factor. Currently, out of all of the individuals helped by the Electrical Industries Charity, 69% are aged over 55. Many of them have a reduced income and are struggling with issues including paying household bills, unsecured debts, and any unexpected expenses such as replacing broken appliances. The Pensioner Support Programme provides
direct assistance in primary care areas including financial and debt assistance, household repairs and essential items, mobility and disability support. With the right level of support, many issues, including financial, emotional, health and family factors can be managed sensitively and proactively, so why not join our support network and help us to transform the lives of elderly people in our industry.
One of the ways you can support our retired colleagues and make a difference in someone’s life is through the Charity’s powerLottery. You can make a difference in someone else’s
life, by donating as little as £1 to the Charity’s powerLottery. It is a fun way to support the Charity and help people in the electrical industry while having a chance to win a cash prize of up to £1,000. You can choose to purchase between one and 40 numbers each month to increase your chances of winning. Everyone, young and old, will benefit from the
powerLottery, as each pound you donate will go to those in need of a helping hand – and you also have the chance of winning a significant amount. So, let’s do something that will create a
brighter future for everyone who needs support to have a happy, retired life.

Set your technology strategy
Stuart Hall, Epicor Sales Director for UK and Ireland explains why a technology strategy, including a flexible ERP solution can boost efficiencies and profits for wholesalers.
S
etting a technology strategy for wholesaler businesses is essential. In the current economic climate,
operational efficiency and business agility are more important than ever – they support innovation and can be the key to greater profits. This is just as true in the electrical wholesaler industry as it is in other sectors such as manufacturing. A solid technology strategy places the onus on innovation with a purpose, identifying efficiencies and making businesses ready for the challenges ahead. A flexible ERP (enterprise resource planning) solution can help a business meet these challenges and grow as it brings together information from all parts of your business.
The Epicor BisTrack system, for example, is an
ERP software solution that can help businesses flourish, allowing managers to immediately see

what is selling, in which areas, and adjust prices and promotions. Customer data is instantly available to everyone. The sales team has access to valuable
customer information and can spot customers who haven’t visited for a while or the products that interest specific clients. With this knowledge, and taking into account past order history, sales staff can suggest popular products. The right software can also build relationships
– credit accounts can be viewed quickly and the sales team can note whether a customer is near their threshold and arrange for them to make payments or extend their credit limit. Several technology trends could potentially be central to future business success and wholesalers should be aware of them. Cloud computing services are one example. In the UK, for instance, Epicor has partnered with Netplan, which has unmatched cloud
capabilities that offer flexibility and choice. The partnership means we can better support customers on their growth path, providing BisTrack customers with hosting, consulting and advisory services. As technology develops we can also expect
more integration between ERP and predictive analytics because big data will be the business resource of the future – both in terms of optimising processes and services and as a basis for innovative business models. Today’s customers expect wholesalers to be
automated and analytical, customer focused and able to provide a seamless, connected, unified and efficient experience. Make the right ERP solution choice for your business as part of a technology strategy and it could be all you need to reach the top of your market.
