congatec launches industrial Thin Mini-ITX motherboard with 7th Gen Intel®
Low profile motherboard solution with high value!
congatec – a leading technology company for embedded computer modules, single board computers and embedded design and manufacturing services – introduces the conga-IC175, a thin industrial-grade motherboard family featuring the new 7th Gen Intel® Core™ U (Kaby Lake) processors designed for IoT connected devices. The new boards are perfectly suited for space-constrained, high-performance, low- power IoT designs. Besides all the enhancements of the new processor generation, they also offer comprehensive IoT support including a SIM card socket for 3G/4G or Narrow Band connectivity and first versions of the congatec Cloud-API that will be demonstrated at Embedded World (Hall 1, Booth 358).
The extremely low profile design of congatec’s new Thin Mini-ITX industrial motherboard family makes it perfectly suited for slim system designs such as industrial GUIs/HMIs, digital signage systems, point-of-sale terminals, and medical tablets. The boards excel through the option of ultra-fast Intel® Optane™ memory via M.2 connector, enabling extremely fast system boots, application starts, video recording and processing, and software updates. The boards further support Hyper-Threading which turns the dual-core design into a 4-in-1 system when utilizing the RTS real time hypervisor.

SCHURTER T9 now available for PCB mounting SCHURTER's T9 fuseholder style circuit breaker series is now
ex-panded to include model T9-818 for PCB mounting. The new model complements the existing T9 series assortment for panel mounting, providing a complete range of mounting styles equivalent to closed fuseholders.
The T9 series circuit breaker with the Model T9-818 for PCB mounting fills a gap in the market. The T9 series feature dimensions comparable to those of traditional fuseholders, and is likewise similarly designed for direct placement on circuit boards. SCHURTER’s existing T9 series features quick-connect terminal types for front and rear snap in panel mounting, as well as thread neck mounting.
As with all PCB mounted components, assembly costs are considerably lower because fewer materials are used and wires are eliminated to fully automate assembly. In addition, the T9-818 is more compact than quick-connect terminal types and thus requires less space. Furthermore, its slim design means the reset button protrudes only minimally from the front panel. Two mounting pins provide additional mechanical support on the circuit board and protect the solder connections from additional pressure when the reset button is activated.
The shape of the T9 circuit breaker is very similar to that of a fuseholder and thus offers an excellent alternative to 5x20 fuses and their respective fuseholders, where current surges can lead to premature tripping and aging over time. In contrast, circuit breakers prevent unnecessary down time by eliminating the need for changing fuses, as well as the associated risk of inadvertently inserting a fuse with the incorrect current rating, which may lead to equipment damage.

Core™ U processors for IoT connected devices RFI/EMI ventilation panels for electronic enclosures
Most electronic enclosures need some form of air ventilation to keep cool the electronics within. If this is a RFI/EMI shielded enclosure then the overall shielding effectiveness of the enclosure can be compromised. For many commercial applications perforated sheet, metal or metallised plastic will suffice but for high performance requirements waveguides provide superior shielding over a wide frequency range. Waveguides can be circular, rectangular or honeycomb shaped. The principle is that of “Waveguide beyond cut off”. The honeycomb vent is series of tubes that acts as a waveguide, guiding
electromagnetic waves into or out of the enclosure, but as the tubes are long enough then it attenuates those waves. Typically the tube should be at least 3 times as long as the diameter. Good practice is 4 times. Therefore a 3.18mm cell should be 12.7mm long.
The most cost effective is aluminium honeycomb because it offers high shielding performance, light weight and good airflow as it is 96% open area. A typical shielded enclosure will use 2 honeycomb ventilation panels one as the inlet and one for the exhaust.
Aluminium honeycomb vents are supplied in an aluminium frame with an emi gasket to ensure a good electrically conductive bond with the enclosure. Many frame styles are available to suite different mounting methods.

DX enclosure-based cooling supports growing
IT needs In today’s data-driven business models, even small companies have to contend with growing IT needs. When they expand their computing environments and install the latest class of servers, the issue of cooling the equipment becomes acute. Legacy air-cooling systems are no longer sufficient. The Rittal LCU DX and LCP DX solutions deliver enclosure-based cooling via direct expansion units. The units are easy to install simply by mounting them on the side panels inside IT racks.
Expanding a small-scale, air-cooled IT hardware environment to create a multi-enclosure facility often calls for a new cooling strategy. The first and most fundamental question is whether water- based or refrigerant-based cooling is more appropriate. It also makes sense to understand the total cost of ownership – including both capital expenditure and ongoing operating costs.
Direct expansion (DX) solutions for cooling IT equipment are the quickest and easiest solutions to implement and require less capital expenditure than water-based ones. DX solutions employ conventional refrigerant-based cooling with a split system and a compres-sor. Cooling is via a closed-loop refrigeration cycle, featuring an evaporator, a compressor, a condenser and an expansion valve.
Rittal’s LCU DX (Liquid Cooling Unit) offers enclosure-based cooling with DX units mounted inside 800 wide IT racks. They are available with up to 6.5 kW output in both single and dual redunacy variants.
