ready covered that. But Mouser also strives to understand what else the design community really wants and needs from distribu- tion, and we have come to the conclusion that the best role we can play is that of a knowledge provider. We believe that engi- neers need distributors that can provide not only devices them- selves and the design ecosystem – the tools, the dev kits, the modules, the OS etc. (as an aside, according to a recent inde- pendent survey, Mouser stocks more development kits than any other distributor) - but critically they need distributors that can provide the knowledge, the learning, perhaps even the inspira- tion that they need to identify the best approach, and then the best technology, and finally the best semiconductor solution for their project.

As far as Mouser is concerned, one of the best places to start is the Applications & Technologies section of our site http://eu.mouser.com/applications/. This is a resource which is constantly expanding, both in terms of the number of different topics that it includes and also the breadth and variety of content which it contains. So to begin with, you’ll be asked to select from one of 11 applications (Audio, Automotive, Broadcast, Communications, Computing, Industrial, Instrumentation, Light- ing, Medical, Motor Control and Security) or 23 different tech- nologies which I’m not going to list, but which includes hot topics such as Energy Harvesting, the IoT, Low Power, Robotics, Sensors and USB 3.0. Take any one of those applications at random – let’s say Auto- motive. Under the Automotive Applications blue button you’ll

find 13 different sub-sections with block diagrams detailing: Ad- vanced Driver Assistance Systems, HEV Battery Charging, Info- tainment, Digital Radio, Rear View Systems, Instrument Cluster, Braking, Power Steering, Keyless Entry and more. Again, picking at random, if we look at the HEV Battery Charging block dia- gram we can click on the processor element which leads to five pages of possible parts from Texas Instruments, NXP/Freescale, STMicroelectronics and Infineon, all linked to full data sheets, de- sign references, pricing and availability information. As with all other sections of this site, the Automotive heading also includes articles and technical resources, including videos, tutorials and white papers.

The example above proves how vital the web is for our opera- tion, but we never forget that people do business with people - plus there are regional variations in business cultures and trading conditions to consider. Therefore we have local offices in all key countries – nine in total in Europe, with the most recent being opened this summer in the Czech Republic. If you want to talk to someone in your own language, pay in your own currency and in accordance with your cultural business practices, you can do so, we welcome the calls. So back to our predictions for 2017: as far as Mouser is con-

cerned, we will remain fully committed to supporting design en- gineers. And we will invest in the resources and tools to ensure we retain our leadership position in this activity. Let others look enviously at supposed greener grass: we will never stray from our main purpose.
