Welcome to the CIE Distributor Directory 2017


The CIE Distributor Directory is now in it 24th year, with a special issue planned for next year to celebrate its 25th anniversary. Designed to assist buyers and design engineers in sourcing the most suitable electronic components that they require, the directory is a comprehensive resource which will put them in touch with the companies and services they need within the UK’s engineering community. It acts as a link between distributors and companies developing applications and products and is a reliable resource that is simple and easy to use.


The electronic components market has had an interesting year and is continuing to change with the effects of Brexit, the election of Trump in the US and other political changes and events happening across the globe. However, forecasters have predicted a fairly good year for the electronic components market despite these changes.


Many distributors are continuing to adopt a one-stop- shop approach to provide a complete solutions offering to customers rather than just a supplier of components. 2016 has also been a big year of merger and acquisition activity which is predicted to carry on into 2017. Adam Fletcher, chairman ecsn, predicts that consolidating these changes will continue to be a challenge for all parties but assuming there are no major macroeconomic shocks, the recovery cycle in the global electronic components markets will continue. On pages six and seven, Adam Fletcher gives more of an overview of what happened in 2016 and what we can expect in 2017, including data supplied from the Electronic Components Supply Network members to shed some light on what might happen in 2017. Graham Maggs at Mouser has also contributed to this


year’s directory talking about the past year, the year ahead and the importance of distributor support for the design engineer.
