PRODUCTS FASTENINGS & ADHESIVES

SOLUTIONS FOR SENSITIVE PLASTICS

SELF-CLINCHING PINS FOR THIN METAL SHEETS

As solutions for positioning, alignment or pivot applications, PennEngineering’s PEM self- clinching pilot pins install easily into thin metal sheets. Simply pressed into a pre-punched mounting hole, these become permanent parts of an assembly after installation. Products available include the Type TPS pins

Now available from DELO Industrial Adhesives are high-strength epoxy resin-based adhesives that offer excellent adhesion to sensitive plastics and fast curing at low temperatures. Products available include the

dual-curing DELO-DUALBOND LT2216. Suitable for electronic and optoelectronic applications in the automotive and consumer electronics industries, this reaches full strength within 90 minutes at 60˚C after prefixation by light. Adhering to LCP, PA and PPS, this can be used where fast fixing of components and curing at a low temperature is needed. With DELO-DUALBOND LT2216,

prefixing can occur in just half a second when exposed to light. Of benefit, its low curing temperature helps reduce thermal stress and shock between materials, limiting the impact on the component being bonded. A medium strength, more flexible

dual-curing modification version is also available. In addition, the company has also enhanced its ‘heat-curing only’ DELOMONOPOX LT adhesive with an accelerated curing speed from 90 minutes to 30 minutes at 60°C. Ideal for optical packaging applications, this adheres to many plastics including LCP, PA and PPS as well as to metals and FR4 composites. This can, for example, be used to bond and cast infrared LEDs, micro-optics and image sensors in compact camera modules as well as other electronic assemblies.

which are manufactured from 300 Series stainless steel and install in steel or aluminium sheets; and the Type TP4 pins in 400 Series stainless steel for stainless steel assemblies. Available in a variety of sizes and diameters, both install flush in sheets as thin as 1mm and feature a chamfered end to locate the mating hole quickly and easily. The Type TPXS pins are engineered with a 15˚

tapered point to locate and engage the mating hole easily. These 16mm-long pins are made from 300 Series stainless steel and will install reliably in aluminium or steel sheets as thin as 1mm. For compact consumer electronic assemblies, the company offers the Type MPP micro pins which can be supplied with diameters as small as 1mm

TAPES SUIT THE METAL FABRICATION MARKET

According to tesa, analysis on the use of double-sided tapes throughout many of the major industrial sectors – such as automotive, aerospace, construction, paint and manufacturing – shows why they are a good choice. Apart from their ease of storage and use, tesa’s tapes can

improve the speed and efficiency of the manufacturing process. Of additional benefit, double-sided tapes offer aesthetic benefits; plus tapes are dependable and offer excellent stress distribution across the surface of bonded parts with no weak points. The most recent additions to the company’s range

of tapes for the metal fabrication market are from its ACXplus

offering. The ACXplus 707x has been developed with

demanding outdoor applications in mind, and is able to resist temperatures up to 220˚C and cold shock down to -40˚C. 706x, meanwhile, is designed for use on hard-to- bond materials such as powder coated or plastic parts, and is able to compensate for the varying thermal expansion of different substrates.

The adhesives have a tunable set THERMALLY CONDUCTIVE EPOXY ADHESIVES

To meet the demands of applications in energy and electrical engineering where ever higher levels of thermal conductivity are needed, Intertronics has introduced a new generation of two-part epoxy adhesives. These offer excellent thermal conductivity, enhancing the effectiveness of heat paths found in applications such as LED heat sink attachment, chip assembly, encapsulation, potting of thermal sensors, assembly of power modules, connection of pipes in heat exchangers, and the bonding and potting of battery cells and electric motors. One example is Polytec TC 433, an advanced semi-rigid boron nitride

filled adhesive. This features 2W/mK thermal conductivity and a glass transition around 110°C after thermal curing, withstanding up to 220˚C continuous operation temperature.

of mechanical properties that can be adjusted to meet specific processing and performance parameters. With the ability to fine-tune the viscosity, hardness and reactivity of resins to suit requirements, it is possible to create high quality abrasive products while optimizing line throughput and reducing wastage. Four versions of VITROX ABR are

currently available: 7400 – high viscosity, flexible; 7600 – high viscosity, rigid; 2400 – low viscosity, flexible; and 3800 – low viscosity, rigid.

TWO-COMPONENT RESINS LAUNCHED

A new range of speciality, two- component, polyurethane-based resins has been launched by the Polyurethanes division of Huntsman. According to the company, by using these to bind mineral and synthetic grains to backing materials and webs, abrasive manufacturers can gain greater control over resin-related steps in the production process – whether they are creating abrasive products for achieving the perfect finish on metal, wood, leather, glass, ceramics or other specialist substrates.

and in lengths as short as 2mm. They install into stainless steel or other sheet materials as thin as 0.5mm. On installation, the pin’s head mounts flush with the host panel to promote a smooth and clean appearance for the assembly.
