ENGINEER TAKES ON KILIMANJARO CHALLENGE

An engineer at RDM Electrical and Mechanical Services is taking on the ‘challenge for a cause’ Mount Kilimanjaro trek with the Electrical Industries Charity (EIC), to help raise funds for a family affected by the loss of a loved one to cancer. Rose Phillips, an engineer with the award-winning electrical contracting and

engineering company, has accepted the challenge, which aims to raise £100,000 by February 2017 to support research into a rare form of cancer and help the Hendrie family to re-build their lives. Christopher Hendrie, a fellow member of the engineering community, sadly lost his battle to cancer, and so the sector is pulling together to do what it can to support his family. The EIC is the national charity for all people from the electrical, electronics and

energy industries. Phillips, aged 29 from Gower, will be taking the 10-day Lemosho Route as part of the EIC expedition, which is widely considered to be the best route on Mount Kilimanjaro. Phillips, said: “I’m very excited to be taking part in this massive challenge. When the opportunity was put forward to me, there was no way I was going to turn it down. It’s for an incredibly important cause and I’m determined to complete the challenge and raise as much money as possible to provide financial assistance for the Hendrie family.” www.rdmelectrical.com www.electricalcharity.org

ENERGY SPECIALIST AWARDED THREE YEAR MAINTENANCE CONTRACT WITH THE DESIGN MUSEUM

SPIE UK has been awarded a three-year Mechanical and Electrical (M&E) maintenance contract worth £447k with the Design Museum, London. As part of the tender process, SPIE UK’s Facilities

Services division presented an approach demonstrating the care and consideration it could give the museum’s collection. With a focus on seamless team management and a drive to deliver beyond expectations, SPIE was a natural choice of contractor for the installation of the museum’s new M&E system. The Design Museum is one of

the world’s leading galleries of contemporary design and architecture, covering product, industrial, graphic, fashion and architectural design. Founded in 1989 and most recently positioned by the River Thames near Tower Bridge, it has now relocated to the former home

of the Commonwealth Institute, undergoing an £83m refurbishment. The museum closed on 30 June 2016 and reopened at the iconic building in Kensington, South West London on 24 November 2016. Steve Gibbs, SPIE UK’s facilities

services managing director, says: “We were thrilled to have won the contract to work for this prestigious client. The opening of the Design Museum’s new space is one of the biggest events on the London arts scene this year and it’s a privilege to have played a part in its success.” Brian Reeves, head of facilities from The Design Museum, adds:

“With their proven facilities management heritage experience and distinct solutions for improving buildings environmental performance, SPIE will enable us to realise our environmental goals over the coming years.” www.spieuk.com
