TEST & MEASUREMENT  PRODUCTS ENHANCED INSULATION TESTERS OFFER VARIABLE TEST VOLTAGES

Megger has enhanced its MIT400/2 series of insulation and continuity testers. These CAT IV 600V rated instruments feature an adjustable insulation test voltage from 10V to 1,000V in 1V steps, giving them a much tighter control of test voltage, as well as conformance to specific standards and requirements mandated by regulatory agencies. The MIT400/2 series is suitable for electrical installations, cable testing and motor testing as well as in automotive, ESD, panel building, avionics and maintenance applications. It provides greater user safety when testing in higher voltage environments. The MIT400/2 series, which includes the MIT400/2, MIT410/2, MIT420/2 and MIT430/2, offers test ranges from 2GΩ to 200GΩ, with test voltages ranging from 50V to 1,000V. The testers have also been enhanced with feedback controlled test voltages to limit over-voltage to two per cent, far below the accepted industry standard of 10 per cent to 20 per cent. The series features a stabilised insulation test voltage to ensure it remains within tolerance to industry and regulatory standards, as well as a single resistance range with significantly faster

continuity testing ranging from 0.01Ω to 1MΩ. It also features rechargeable options for AC power and car charging. These enhanced units feature DC voltage measurements (up to 600V) as well as Trms measurements allowing for accurate data acquisition on noisy lines. Voltages are displayed on a smaller digital readout on the instrument, while the actual test measurement range is shown on a larger digital display during the test. Polarisation index (PI), dielectric absorption ratio (DAR) function and adjustable continuity pass/fail limit alarms are featured on all units. Continuity test currents from 200mA or 20mA are available. For safety, each tester features live circuit detection and protection. All instruments are over-molded for increased protection and sealed to IP54, providing a weatherproof case to lessen the chance of water ingress. The MIT400/2 series features a back-stand and a battery compartment for 6AA batteries, with separate fuse access. Bluetooth wireless data transfer and test results storage are available on the MIT430/2. Megger

TBS2000 BASIC OSCILLOSCOPE ADDS TO RANGE OF TEST & MEASUREMENT EQUIPMENT

Conrad Business Supplies has added the new TBS2000 series of basic oscilloscopes from Tektronix to its broad test equipment offering. The TBS2000 is targeted at advanced basic oscilloscope users in design engineering and electronic engineering teaching environments. Versions are available with either 70MHz or 100MHz bandwidth and with two or four channels. The nine-inch Wide Video Graphics Array (WVGA) display with 15 horizontal (time) divisions

allows 50 per cent more signal viewing to speed test procedures, while the up to 20 million point record length means that even very long duration signals can be captured and analysed. The TBS2000 is the only basic level oscilloscope with the TekVPI Probe Interface for optimum application coverage with a wide range of active voltage and current probes. The up to one giga samples / second (GS/s) sampling rate TBS2000 has been optimised with

today’s typically more complex signals, such as pulse width modulation (PWM), in mind. Its ease of use has been further enhanced with on-waveform cursor readouts and 32 automatic measurements.

ISA100 WIRELESS-BASED FIELD WIRELESS VIBRATION SENSOR

Yokogawa Electric has developed an ISA100 Wireless-based field wireless vibration sensor with the ability to quickly update data as well as a long battery life. ISA100 Wireless is a technology that is based on

the ISA100.11a standard. It includes ISA100.11a-2011 communications, an application layer with process control industry standard objects, device descriptions and capabilities, a gateway interface, infrared provisioning, and a backbone router. By providing real-time updates on vibration levels in plant facilities, the new sensor helps

users quickly detect equipment anomalies and enables predictive maintenance. The principal components of this field wireless vibration sensor are the FN510 field wireless

multifunction module, the LN01 piezoelectric type acceleration sensor, and the FN110 field wireless communication module. Via a gateway device, the FN510 uses the ISA100 Wireless communications protocol to exchange data with a host-level system such as a DCS. The data collected enables maintenance staff to monitor vibration levels in real time. Both explosion- proof and non-explosion-proof types are available.

The new FLIR DM284 combines an 18-function industrial, True RMS digital multimeter with FLIR’s infrared guided measurement technology (IGM) which quickly steers the user to the precise location of the temperature anomaly at a safe distance from the electrical panel or cabinet. The DM284 is the latest member of the IGM

family of instruments which not only facilitates quicker troubleshooting, but also makes inspection more thorough. IGM puts the electrical problem into context, clearly visualising temperature differences. This is made possible by the built-in FLIR Lepton thermal 160 x 120 pixels micro-camera core that is now at the heart of a number of imaging instruments for the trades. When scanning panels, connectors and wires,

this micro-camera helps users pinpoint potential problems without requiring any direct contact with the test site. Once IGM has identified an issue, the current, voltage and other advanced functions on the FLIR DM284 are then employed to verify and confirm findings. A built-in work light and a laser pointer assists

in poorly lit environments and pinpoints the location of the problem in the thermal image. Thermal and electrical thermocouple measurements can be viewed simultaneously and three thermal image colour palettes are selectable via the simple user interface. The FLIR DM284’s combined capabilities also

reduces the number of tools that electricians need to carry to conduct a thorough inspection.
