Q&A WITH THE EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR

“I’m hoping by 2030, we will have been able to integrate technology to best fi t residents’ needs and wants. During this situation, we are teaching residents how to use Zoom, FaceTime, Skype, and more. Seeing their family and friends in person would be the fi rst choice, but residents are embracing this technology and enjoying learning new skills. When designing residences, we need to add technology that will help residents stay safe while giving the advantages of being connected to family and friends. I look forward to the changes I can help implement in the next 10 years to enrich the lives of our residents!”

“In 2030, senior living communities will experience an infl ux as our aging population surges. Providers have an opportunity now to look at their staffi ng model and blend positions and/or cross- train to improve effi ciency. We will also be faced with generation Z entering the workforce, with a unique set of traits that leaders should prepare for, in order to recruit and retain these individuals.”

“Creature comforts are the wave of the future for assisted living. COVID-19 has taught us how to live and thrive in what we love around us: We can expect to see in-house coff ee shops or mobile café kiosks; yoga studios with essential oils and calming music in the air; more live music to enrich us; master gardening to brighten up our outdoor living spaces; internet streaming TV services in each apartment; and WiFi to keep residents connected to social networks.”

Julie Dyson, CDAL Residence Director Legend Senior Living Legend at Mingo Road

“The next ten years will see the full immersion of the baby boomers in our environments, with a new frame of expectations to meet their preferred lifestyles. I see three key areas of change. Health care will involve a greater acceptance of telehealth and doctor-on-demand services, rather than in- person clinic visits. In culinary, residents will seek more restaurant-like choices and farm-to-table will be an expectation. Technology innovations will enhance customer care even with a limited workforce.”
