Smiling With Your Eyes and Helping Us to Heal
There’s nothing to say except “thank you.” Thank you for all the courage you show in making every day and every hour one that makes life better and healthier for older adults. Thank you for fi nding so many meaningful and purposeful moments every day, with so many diff erent people. Thank you for listening. Thank you for easing fears— families, residents, staff , co-workers—with honesty and compassion.
Thank you for coming up with innovative ideas day after day to make this easier on residents and families, to get over the new obstacles each day seems to present, and to keep improving quality even in a pandemic. Thank you for sharing these ideas with colleagues, with Argentum, with other providers, with partners in the industry. Your generosity and collaborative spirit has saved others time, sanity, and health in ways you may never fully know. Thank you for contributing so much to this issue—your visions for the future and what we need to get there.
Thank you for staying positive despite the barrage of bad news—some of it inaccurate and unfair.
Thank you for navigating the constant uncertainties—about the nature of the disease itself, about policies and orders and guidance, about where the industry is going. People who work in senior living are in the business of care. They don’t expect thanks for doing their jobs. Yet this situation has no parallel in its scale, its unpredictability, and in its eff ects: It puts in most danger the very people our mission serves to help.
The coronavirus pandemic appears acutely designed to break hearts and spirits in senior living. But it’s not succeeding. Thank you. Most of us are becoming more adept at online learning and interaction every day. The Argentum Senior Living Executive Virtual Conference, taking place September 22-24, 2020, will make the most out of what you’ve learned and help us all move forward. The three-day live event includes 30 hours of CEUs, C-Suite panels, nine learning tracks, and sponsor solutions showcases. But it’s designed to be highly interactive, with networking and peer-to-peer discussion forums, easy to navigate, and full of eye-opening moments—such as nine sessions covering lessons learned in COVID-19. With the future of the industry being created every day, it may be more important than ever to be in the virtual room where it happens—and where you can be part of it. Register at
