Discover the adventure of Toile de Jouy. From the end of the XVIIth century when Europe started importing chintz from In- dia, to 1759 when Oberkampf, a cotton dyer and printer from south Germany, started his first workshop in Jouy-en-Josas, near Versailles where the Bievre river gave pure water for dyeing. His manufactory grew so much that it became the lar- gest in Europe, employing 1237 workers in 1821. The name «Toile de Jouy» has ever since been a symbol or french «art de vivre».
