Blackpool Council is to bring the management and day-to-day operations of Blackpool Airport back in-house following a lengthy but unsuccessful search for a new contractor. The council reacquired Blackpool Airport from Balfour Beatty in September 2017 for £4.25m through its wholly owned subsidiaries, Blackpool Airport Operations and Blackpool Airport Property, which will now operate the site. The council’s planning committee also voted unanimously to approve the build of a seven-storey 215,000 sq ft office block as part of the Talbot Gateway town centre regeneration plans. The hub will house 1,700 desks, but is expected to accommodate up to 2,800 civil service jobs when accounting for those who will work remotely.
