WELCOME

FROM OUR CHIEF EXECUTIVE

I am delighted to introduce the first edition of Pulse, the Trust’s new magazine for staff, volunteers and partners.

I suspect there’s never been a more challenging – or exciting – time to work in a major acute NHS trust like ours. We want Pulse to show the depth and breadth of what we are doing through your stories and achievements. It’s so important for us all to have a shared vision of our organisation’s future – of the care we want to provide for our patients and local communities – and how it is being realised through our collective endeavours. Please take time to reflect on the amazing things our people do and get access to our truly remarkable range of expertise and opinion.

Our first edition is launched as we move into autumn, when operational pressures are certain to increase. We’ve already seen a significant rise in A&E attendances in September and our waiting lists have been growing

too. We’ll need to find that extra boost to stay focused on continued improvements while also delivering for our patients day-in, day-out. That’s one reason why we’re holding our first ‘Improvement week’ in October – celebrating and promoting our quality improvement programme one year on from its launch, including raising awareness of the more than 100 projects led by staff at all levels across all our services.

And, as you’ll see in the magazine, we are progressing longer-term projects to improve our physical and

operational infrastructure, to achieve financial sustainability, and to develop new models of care to meet changing needs. If you’re not already involved, I hope you feel inspired to find out more and help shape and drive these essential developments. The digital format of the magazine has lots of links to additional information, resources and ways to feedback. I hope you enjoy the read!
