hether you’re the parents of young children or adolescents, we trust you’ll fi nd Ready, Set, Grow® (Raising Healthy Kids) a valuable resource for instilling healthy habits in your kids, so they can make good choices and lead productive lives. The family table is an ideal place for promoting healthful eating and positive communication (“Gather ‘Round”), particularly when you encourage everyone’s participation. Even fi nicky eaters will appreciate a special meal they helped plan, shop for, cook and serve. And allowing children and adults at the table a chance to share opinions on the day’s happenings and other interesting subjects affords you the opportunity to get to know your own family better. Looking for ways to keep your kids physically active both
indoors and outside as the seasons change? Join them in some recommended age-appropriate physical activities everyone in your household can enjoy (“Best Exercises for Kids”). Also learn about the lifelong benefi ts of keeping fi t — including decreasing the risk of type 2 diabetes, building strong bones and muscles, and enhancing emotional well-being. Simple exercise can help you and your family manage anxiety (“Take Control of Stress”). Read about additional coping strategies for school- and home-related stress, and make a point of modeling healthy behaviors for your children. It’s crucial that kids get restorative rest after a busy day of school and play, so they can function at their full potential (“The Big Sleep”).
