Run Simple


The vendor has been promoting this idea of simplicity since last year when a new motto – ‘Run Simple’ – was introduced. Speaking at the opening of the latest Sapphire event, SAP’s chief executive, Bill McDer- mott, stated that ‘simple is the answer when the going gets tough’. In the banking space, a number of initiatives have been introduced to achieve this. There is a set implementation methodology, such as the Sprint (SAP Banking Reference Architecture and INTegrated IP) approach and One Touch Banking Toolbox. The latter is akin to a sandpit environment that can be deployed in two days for the full core and analytics, with built-in scenarios, says Rieker. ‘It is perfect for proof-of-concept exercises’. Much progress has been done with BIAN, of which SAP is a founding member. Its principles are incorporated into SAP’s products and methodologies. BIAN has recently unveiled Service Landscape 4.0, the completed global standardised IT architecture for banks, touted as a worldwide standard for core banking technology (see front page).
