“WE BELIEVE THERE ARE MANY MORE PEOPLE LIKE US WHO HATE QUEUEING AND WOULD BE EAGER TO SAVE TIME”

Once those decisions are made, we launch in a week. Moreover, we are introducing the innovation. Yes, today many retailers can survive without it, so there is no big time pressure for them from the market (but there will be in very near future).

Nevertheless, we are happy that we have managed to find those retailers who are looking to innovate and seize the opportunity to increase their sales and are eager to be the first ones in the market to get the benefits

IBS Journal: Where do you want to be in five years?

VA: We believe that retailers will soon see a market pressure to provide ordering and self-checkout for people to avoid queues. You can already see the increase in usage of big hardware terminals for that (e.g. McDonald’s ordering machines, self-checkout terminals at supermarkets or petrol stations).

We believe retailers can jump the stage of installing hardware machines and offer a better service by using mobile. Moreover, they do not have to build those solutions themselves (like Starbucks did for their app which is capable of order and pay) when they

use the likes of WoraPay.

Therefore, in five years WoraPay will be the most used platform for mobile order and self-checkout services, both in terms of the biggest branded apps (the ones that built their own) as well as the smaller ones that use generic solutions. All of them will provide services with invisible mobile payments behind the scenes. Their clients will be enjoying order and self-checkout on mobile and skipping queues, while retailers will see increased sales due to faster moving footfall.

WoraPay is working on a pilot of its technology with Gather & Gather, after they were introduced by the Innovation Labs team at Lloyds Banking Group (LBG). Now a few months into a trial at the banking giant, WoraPay estimates that the Group’s colleagues have already saved more than 1,400 hours that they would have otherwise spent standing in a queue for their cof- fee.

The pilot started following an event the startup attend- ed, which LBG hosted as part of its collaboration with Startupbootcamp’s FinTech accelerator programme. While WoraPay CEO Vaidas Adomauskas was waiting his turn to present, Richard Jackson, WoraPay UK’s MD, noticed the internal coffee shop near to where the

event was being held.

Working with Daria Mitaenko, a Senior Manager of LBG Innovation Labs, WoraPay started the pilot with Gather & Gather, which runs the food and beverage counters at all of the Group’s offices. Following an initial test run at the Chiswell Street London office, this was extended to its other London sites, as well as to offices in Halifax and Bristol.

WoraPay is now in discussions with Gather & Gather about the possible roll-out of the service across the en- tire LBG estate, as well as with other external catering companies to launch the service.
