The long-suff ering project to implement FIS’s Profi le core banking system at UK-based Harrods Bank is believed to have ground to a halt. The bank has been looking to replace its legacy Misys Bankmaster solution for a
number of years now. The protracted selection process, which involved Temenos and FIS at the shortlisted stage, fi nally concluded last year. The decision to implement FIS’s Profi le, however, was swiftly followed by the depar-
ture of the senior management who selected the system. The new management picked up the existing contract, but the system delivery is yet to take place. With no tangible results known to date, it is understood that the project’s fate is now up in the air. The work has been halted, but no fi nal decision taken yet, it is believed.
IBS Intelligence understands that Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) is looking to modernise its core banking software. IDB is an international organisation that counts 48 countries as its members. It is the
largest source of development fi nancing for Latin America and the Caribbean. The bank lends to governments, government agencies and state-owned corporations, aiding the economic and social development and regional integration. The bank’s head offi ce is in Washington DC, US. On the technology side, IDB is a long-standing user of the Opics treasury and
capital markets (TCM) software from Misys. In 2014, the bank also signed for another TCM off ering from Misys, Summit.
Ethiopia-based Dashen Bank is looking for a vendor to help it in interfacing its core banking system with Ethiopian Automated Transfer System (EATS). Dashen Bank is a long-standing user of Oracle FSS’s Flexcube core banking system.
The system has been upgraded over the years. The bank is looking to interface Flexcube to EATS, the national automated transfer
system. It is a real-time gross settlement (RTGS) system and ACH supplied by payments specialist Montran.
Dashen Bank is based in Addis Ababa and is the country’s largest privately owned
bank. It has a countrywide network of 145+ branches, nine FX bureaus, 170 ATMs and over 830 POS terminals.
Cardiff -based Principality Building Society is believed to be pondering the future of its legacy core solution provided by Unisys Financial Services System (UFSS). The building society is the largest building society in Wales and the sixth largest in
the UK. It has assets of around £7 billion. It is understood that Principality is considering an upgrade of UFSS or a move to another solution and provider altogether. It is believed that Misys with its FusionBank- ing core system, Sopra Banking Software with MSS and Fiserv with its outsourced Agiliti off ering might stand a chance. The vendors are believed to be doing demos for the society. Temenos (with T24) and FIS (with Profi le), however, are believed to be out of the game.
What awaits Portugal-based operations of Barclays in terms of technology now that they are merging with Bankinter? Barclays sold its retail, wealth and insurance management business to a Spanish
conglomerate, Bankinter, in early autumn last year. The deal was valued at €175 million. Bankinter relies on its in-house developed core banking system, while Barclays opera- tions in Portugal run Accenture’s Alnova. Is this the end of the road for Alnova here?
