Complete Auto Recycling Show (CARS) Revs Up For 2016 A
nyone who attended CARS in 2012 or 2014 knows just how great an event this is for the auto recycler. Based in the UK, this is the largest show for the industry in Europe and makes a great meeting point for views and ideas from professionals around the world. CARS 2012 at Hills Motors in Liverpool, and CARS 2014 hosted by Motorhog in Doncaster both demonstrated this, being not only informative but fun as well with plenty to entertain. Environment Media Group (EMG), who runs the show with a steering committee of industry pro- fessionals are busy putting the finish- ing touches to the 2016 show that will take place July 13 - 14.
CARS has previously been yard- based but this time, due to its size, moves to an exhibition site based cen- trally in England, offering great air, road, and rail links for visitors. The organizers know that good trav- el options are essential for the large num- ber of international visitors that attend the show. After all, this is also a great opportunity for anyone wanting to extend their break with a holiday either in the United Kingdom or mainland Europe.
I refer to this as an exhibition site, but Donington Park is not your convention- al location. Yes, there’s an impressive exhibition hall (which is a converted Rolls Royce factory), but there’s also a superb outdoor exhibition space for all the machinery we like to see being put through its paces.
Donington Park is also one the UK’s leading motor racing circuits; a museum houses an extensive collection of work- ing Grands Prix cars as well as the Wheatcroft Military Collection of vehi- cles, and the circuit is the home of the FIA world formula E series for electric racing cars.

event attracted vis- itors from 25 countries includ- ing India, Japan, Germany, USA, and Australia, so you won’t be short of company on the Gala Night, planned for the evening of July 13. The CARS 2016 show is also being run in conjunc-
Well, naturally there’s an extensive trade show which includes a large, outdoor exhibition area, allowing manufacturers and suppliers to show what their machin- ery can do. Then a skills lab offers train- ing in a variety of topics.
The Conference Program discuss- es key issues that affect future develop- ments in auto recycling. Topics (at this time) include: “New Production Vehicles: Laptops on Wheels;” “Ecommerce: In- crease Your Profits by Engaging and Selling Online;” “The Impact of Market Forces; Where is the Second-Hand Parts Market Heading?;” “The Future of Material Technology: Can we Meet the 94% Target?;” and “Salvage Code of Practice: A Legislative Update.” But then there’s also the fun side of the show. Apart from catching up with old friends, it’s a great opportunity to make new contacts from around the world, and one never knows where that might lead!
tion with the Metals Recycling Event (MRE). The organizers saw this as a natural progression as scrap metal represents a signifi- cant slice of automotive recycling. The steering committee felt it made sense to extend coverage to not only those involved in auto metals recycling, but to the whole of the metals recycling sector. Particularly as the materials used in vehicles continues to broaden and new profitable opportuni- ties with the extended metals sector may be found.
I know from the organizers that there are still elements being put in place and many of those come from the exhibitors themselves. The CARS 2016 website,
www.cars-expo.com, provides all current information and the Donington Park at
www.donington-park.co.uk gives you a view of the location site.
Again, the dates are July 13-14, 2016, and I will hope to see you there. See the ad on the inside back cover!
