Green Recycled Parts Members Partner with CAR Program: Contribute to the ARA Brand

A s of July 1, 2015, all Green Recycled Parts® (GRP) members became subscribers to

the Certified Automotive Recycler (CAR) program and vice versa. To become a CAR member you must submit annual environmental audits as well as pay yearly dues of $100. ARA has recently updated the CAR application which is now based on an easy-to-use point system under which a facility will be evaluated using a point value for each CAR standard. There is no cost to join GRP. Also membership in an ARA-approved state CAR program makes you eligible to be part of the GRP program. Once approved by either a state or the national program, you will have full access to the Green Recycled Parts®

brand

to supplement your efforts to market your business and increase sales.

ARA Safety Committee Continues to Publish Workplace Safety Newsletters

RA’s Safety Committee published six editions of the ARA Workplace Safety Newsletter in 2014 and has com- pleted three to date in 2015. Each one- page newsletter covers two topics, and includes at least one “take away.” It is deliv- ered via email to ARA member facility safety managers.

The six topics included in the three issues of 2015 address OSHA’s Form 300A Posting Requirement, with a reminder of new reporting mandates; OSHA’s Requirement to Inspect Hoists; Correct Use of Hoist Clips Training on Use of Small Tools; Personal Protective Equipment; Sample Safety Calendar; and free OSHA Safety Posters.

Professional Automotive Recyclers Work to Improve NMVTIS

RA Executive Committee Member RD Hopper and Pull-A-Part, LLC Senior Vice President Steve Levetan have participated in two meetings of the 2015 National Motor Vehicle Title Information System (NMVTIS) Advisory Board in February and in June of this year. Both recyclers also are serving on the Board's Compliance Subcommittee which is chaired by Howard Nussbaum, Administrator of the National Salvage Vehicle Reporting Program (NSVRP). The Subcommittee is focusing on streamlining reporting terminology to improve NMVTIS’ ability to track end-of- life vehicles.

Levetan continues to report on the sta- tus of NMVTIS reporting at the state level and notes that “it is critical to the success of NMVTIS to support efforts by state legislatures to require NMVTIS reporting to states.” Hopper centers his comments on how important it is for NMVTIS to correctly track vehicles from “cradle to grave.” The NMVTIS Advisory Board will con- tinue to meet throughout the year via conference call. On a related note, on behalf of ARA, Hopper met with staff from American Association of Motor Vehicle Admini- strators (AAMVA) – the entity that oper- ates NMVTIS – to discuss a proposed tracking and labeling system for how sal- vage vehicle titles should be described and reported. It is hoped that a new sys- tem will result in increased reports.
