Catch the Vision
Those Mysterious Words and Numbers by Roger Reimer, Reach Beyond I used to lead Bible studies for the staff of a small clinic near Quito, Ecuador. One day a visiting optometry tech told me how he was puzzled by some words and numbers in a book he was reading. His description of these words and numbers was a mystery to me. What could he be referring to? Ten, at our next study, he brought his book to me. It was a book by Charles Swindoll, translated into Spanish, and those mysterious words and numbers were Scripture references. I took a Bible and showed him how the words were actually names of books and the numbers were chapter and verse locators. My friend was able to see that the author of his book was basing his points on God’s Word. He leſt excited and eager to find each
reference and see what the Bible had to say. Equipping others with tools to study the Bible is always a wonderful investment with eternal returns. I’m reminded of the words in Luke 24:45 (ESV) “Ten he opened their minds to understand the Scriptures ….”
Everyday Opportunities by Agnes Tarp, Global Outreach, France† Recently, I had two unexpected opportunities to point someone to Jesus! In a clothing store, a conversation developed with a clerk. She said she’s not a believer but has had contact with Christians, and she does have a Bible. I encouraged her to read the Gospels, starting with Mark. We parted in a friendly mode; perhaps I’ll see Françoise again. In any case, God must be calling her. I’m one link in a chain. Her mother had been a strong believer. Later that aſternoon our neighbor Denise came over. She is a widow with unhappy family circumstances, and she only sees
the bad things in life. She’s convinced that God sends them to her, so she regularly insults him. Tat aſternoon I was able to tell her how much I longed for her to give her problems to God and experience how much he loves her. She ended up taking a little Gospel of Mark, even though she has a Bible. We’ve been praying for her for so long; wouldn’t it be great if this time God really reveals himself to her! †Agnes Tarp wrote this several months before she died on December 29, 2016.
