THRILLS A MINUTE ON YAS

Spend a few days in Abu Dhabi’s entertainment hub and you’d wished you’d spent a few more. Established with excitement, thrills and exhiliration top of mind, Yas Island truly seeks to give each and everyone of its visitors something to write home about. From the world’s fastest roller coaster to the only Links golf course in the Middle East, world-class shopping to international superstars, fill every minute on Yas will fun.

Vooma on four wheels… Tap your inner racing car driver and head to Yas Marina Circuit for a range of driving experiences, from Aston Martins and Mercedes to Camaros and Go Karts. Learn how to drift, improve your driving skills, and saddle up for the ride of your life.

More than just your pulse racing… The iconic red structure with signature yellow and black Ferrari logo looms large whether you’re approaching it by air or road. Ferrari World is the world’s largest indoor amusement park and you don’t need to be a motorsport nut to spend hours enjoying it. In addition to the world’s fastest roller coaster that spits you out at 240km/h, Ferrari World has a range of rides and experiences to

tempt all ages. Meander through the romantic roads of Italy, get your kids on track with the Junior Grand Prix or learn about the craftsmanship that goes into making of a Ferrari. A new bi-plane themed ride opening this year is Flying Aces, the world’s steepest steel rollercoaster featuring a starting inclined by 51 degrees and the world’s tallest loop of 52m. If you’re planning to visit both Ferrari World and Yas Waterworld, it makes sense (plus it’s cheaper) to buy a two-park pass online.

Wet blankets stay home… Zoom, zip and slide through Dana’s quest to find a legendary pearl that bought property to her village. Yas Waterworld features 34 rides including the Middle East’s longest suspended rollercoaster, a surfing experience, loops, humps and, not for the faint hearted, drops. This water extravaganza comprises rides set at different thrill levels and has plenty of seating areas to chill by the pool so to speak and a lazy river so we won’t think ill of you if you’d like to keep your pulse at normal levels.

Speaking about chilling… Beach lovers listen up. Head to Yas Beach Club for a relaxing, exclusive beachfront experience, including loungers, a fully stocked bar, café-style eating and even watersports. Noukhada uses Yas Beach Club as a base for kayak tours through the mangroves, snorkel safaris and stand-up paddle-boarding, among other activities.

Tee-off in paradise

entertainment and dining all under one roof, Yas Mall is located in the heart of Yas Island and features international retail brands, as well as one of the largest Ikeas in the Middle East and interesting dining experience called Rogos, which serves up American- style cuisine on tornado-shaped rollercoasters that deliver your food right to your seat.

Staying on Yas? If you’re staying at one of the hotels on Yas Island, you will have access to the Yas Express which is a free shuttle that travels between the hotel and main attractions on the island. Visitors to Yas Island will find accommodation to suit their budget, including three-, four- and five-star hotels. Our top picks include the iconic Yas Viceroy, the conveniently located Crowne Plaza Abu Dhabi – Yas Island and the Park Inn Abu Dhabi, located near Yas Beach.

ABU DHABI’S ‘FORE’ GOLFING GREATS

SAADIYAT BEACH GOLF CLUB www.sbgolfclub.ae Designed by South Africa’s legendary Gary Player, the Saadiyat Beach Golf Club is located on Saadiyat Island, with 317 acres, three lakes and 67 bunkers. This beachfront course offers five tee-grades, a golf academy and Hawksbill Restaurant, named after the protected turtle species that use Saadiyat Island as their hatching spot.

YAS LINKS GOLF CLUB www.yaslinks.com

The only Links course in the UAE, Yas Links, on Yas Island, is just a pitch and putt from Ferrari World Abu Dhabi and the Yas Marina F1 race circuit. This is a course that celebrates the best in Links design, using the unique weather conditions and complementing the natural surroundings.

ABU DHABI GOLF CLUB www.adgolfclub.com An oasis of tranquility carved out of the desert, the 27- hole championship Abu Dhabi course is home to the European Tour season-opening Abu Dhabi HSBC Golf Championship and weaves through undulating terrain that features a lush playing surface, seven saltwater lakes and hundreds of palms and ornamentals trees. It’s a mere 10-minute drive from the airport or 15 minutes from the city centre.

AL GHAZAL GOLF CLUB www.alghazalgolf.ae

Not one for bunkers? Don’t knock it till you’ve tried it. The Al Ghazal Golf Club certainly is a unique experience for visitors to the UAE in that instead of greens, there are browns. These are created by compacting rolled and treated sand, giving an extremely true putting surface.
