NI Travel News’ SARAH PICKERING caught up with awards host and comedian Paddy Raff at the NI Travel & Tourism Awards to find out where the funny man likes to travel and what we can expect from the future of the Paddy Raft show? Paddy recalls his childhood spent
caravanning around Northern Ireland and says he wants his children to experience the same care-free holidays as he did. “Funny being in Newcastle, one of my earliest memories is going down to the caravan,” he says. “I don’t even know what the site was and I got lost and turned up under somebody’s caravan feeding ducks,
I was only
about two, and I can remember being surrounded by ducks which is one of my earliest memories. We always caravanned growing up.” Paddy is just back from his recent
tour. He is one busy man, but he still took the time to enjoy the scenery. So how did he enjoy the tour? “Well its been really nice actually, because we didn’t release until we we finished but we did 16 dates in a month just across the North. I thought going on tour would be like drinking, partying and all this stuff but little did I know
it was me and my mate who plays the piano as Garth; me and him are driving about chasing about the ‘isn’t that scenery beautiful’ and ‘are these new roads? I think this has just been resurfaced. This is a bypass I’m near sure’ and we were just charting all the roads so it was lovely.” Whats to come for the Paddy Raff show in the future and can we expect new characters? “Because I’ve done two series of the sketch show, we are touring at the minute with the live standup stuff, I’m kind of in a position now to choose whether I go into writing a new stand up or whether I go back and do another series because the BBC have been really good and said, look, whenever you’ve got time, you can do a third series. “We’ll do a third series of the TV show in the early new year. I’ve got a few plans for some of the characters like Kara-Lynn the air hostess, I want to see her being brought back into the job. There’s also a new character that’s came about; the Da character. Basically it’s the old man who’s grumpy and gets everything wrong - all modern terminology,
he gets completely
wrong. I am looking forward to putting that on TV and sort of exploring where we can go with that,” he added.
