Yungblud’s song Parents, taken from his 2019 EP The Underrated Youth, has recently enjoyed a surge in video creations and a massive spike in streams, which are now over 100 million. He spotted the trend himself, calling it out in his own TikTok video. He then uploaded an instrumental version of the track, encouraging fans to create their own version using Duets. It’s proving so popular, it’s now gained its own Parents Challenge hashtag, and is also the soundtrack to Yungblud’s own call out, #AskYungblud. TikTok creators Benji Krol and Liana Jadee have got involved, and Yungblud is leading the charge on a wider emo/pop-punk moment on the platform this year. “Yungblud has had a phenomenal start to the year on TikTok,” says David Mogendorff, head of artist partnerships, TikTok. “He makes the platform his own – he spots trends, works out how to get his fanbase to make them even bigger, and puts his heart and soul into it. His #AskYungblud challenge racked up a staggering 45.7m views in the first three days, and he has gained over 500,000 followers since the start of February.”
