PROTECT YOUR HANDS: Eastman recommends gloves be worn when handling Skydrol, and off ers a published list of gloves that are rated based on their breakthrough time, or the time it takes Skydrol to migrate through the rubber barrier. One glove is not necessarily better than the other, however, they vary based on thickness and absorbent nature. Thinner latex gloves usually have a 15 minutes wear time until a changes is recommended. Thicker gloves are also eff ective and can prolong wear time up to a few hours at a time. The use of gloves prevents

hydraulic fl uid from contacting the skin and prevents irritation. If Skydrol does get on your skin, simply washing your hands with soap and water can counteract any of the usual irritation.

PROTECT YOUR EYES: Eastman suggests wearing eye protection when handling Skydrol as a best practice to reduce the potential of accidental eye exposure. It is important to note that Skydrol will not cause chemical burn, or permanent damage to the eye, but it is considered a minor irritant that will sting and cause discomfort. Caring for your eyes when they have been in contact with Skydrol involves fl ushing your eye with water, from a standard eyewash fountain. It is important to hold your eye open during the fl ush to help the water dissolve Skydrol. You should fl ush the irritated eye continuously for 15 minutes. Skydrol begins to rinse from the irritated eye upon immediate contact with water. If pain continues to persist after a 15-minute eye fl ush, additional medical treatment is recommended to help remove any remaining hydraulic fl uid. This is accomplished by using sterile mineral oil wash administered by a health professional.

WHEN TO USE A RESPIRATOR: Generally a respirator is not needed for handling Skydrol under normal shop working conditions. The exception is if there is a high pressure leak present causing a spray or mist in the air. Under these circumstances,

a respirator is necessary for anyone working to fi x the leak or to clean up after it. For this situation, a normal organic vapor cartridge used in an industrial respirator is suffi cient.
