The Arbella Insurance Foundation donated $2.7 million in 2016, bringing the total amount to more than $23 million since 2005. The Foundation, along with contributions from Arbella Insurance Group employees and independent agents, supports local nonprofit organizations that have a positive impact on the communities we serve.

Arbella’s independent agents have strong community ties and a local presence, so the Foundation works with them to identify and support many smaller charities that may otherwise go unnoticed. Tis grassroots approach enabled the Foundation to give $775,000 through its Agent Matching Gift program and other community giving in 2016. Since 2008, it has donated more than $800,000 in partnership with Arbella independent agents through Let’s Drive Out Hunger, an annual fundraiser that supports local food pantries and soup kitchens.

Arbella Insurance employees value corporate citizenship, and together with the Foundation, they gave $216,000 in 2016 and more than $1 million since 2005. Employees also donate their time through volunteer programs. Last year, 365 employees gave a total of 1,731 hours to volunteer at 57 events.

As a local industry leader in promoting safe driving decisions, the Foundation renewed its commitment to Distractology with an updated mobile classroom and state-of-the-art graphics. Te Foundation also sponsored the Boston’s Safest Driver Competition. In order to compete, more than 4,000 drivers in Greater

Boston downloaded a smartphone app, which gave them feedback on their driving. Te results were impressive— participants’ phone use while driving decreased by 47 percent and speeding dropped by 35 percent.

Because new driving distractions are constantly emerging, the Foundation will remain vigilant in its efforts to educate young drivers and promote safe driving decisions. It is committed to working with Arbella Insurance employees and agents to support nonprofit organizations that make a powerful difference throughout New England.

“Many young drivers are distracted behind the wheel, and the Distractology program shows them what can happen in a fraction of a second. It’s a much-needed reality check!” – Debbie S., vice president, DPS Insurance Group
