Waterstones e-commerce director Ed Armitage has left the bookshop chain. M.d. James Daunt said Armitage, who joined Waterstones from craft and gift retailer Hobbycraft in May last year, had left “to pursue other interests”.


Harlequin has appointed current Orion Books publicity manager Sophie Calder as its first in-house publicist. Calder will join in July as head of publicity. Reporting to Alison Lindsay, head of marketing and communications, Calder will work on Mills & Boon and the new HQ imprint which launched at the London Book Fair in April.


Bernie Corbett, general secretary of the Writers’ Guild of Great Britain, has stepped down after 15 years at the helm of the trade union.


Nigel Farrow, former chairman of Ashgate Publishing, has joined the Independent Publishers Guild as patron.


Gill Tasker has joined Publishing Scotland as book marketing manager, leading Publishing Scotland’s marketing activity and managing booksfromscotland.com.
