BUSINESS AS USUAL...

UNLIKE THE HYSTERIA we’ve seen from politicians and campaigners on both sides during the EU referendum process, business travel professionals are looking at the result calmly and rationally. As Amex GBT vice-president Jason Geall says: “It’s important for the business travel community

to remember nothing is going to change overnight.” (See Yourspace, p93.) Other industry bosses speak of resilience in the sector, confidence, engagement and supporting customers – though nobody denies it’s going to be a bumpy ride for a while. Corporate travel reflects business activity; and business people have said to me it is vital now to let your international trading partners – both in and outside Europe – know that you are committed to them. Therefore, they say, face-to-face meetings may be particularly important at the moment. Currency and market volatility sees both winners and losers. And while there are potential red-tape headaches around visas and borders somewhere down the road, this is something those trading in the dynamic markets of Africa and Asia deal with on a daily basis. Meanwhile, at BBT we’re continuing to tackle the topics that matter to you, from new travel healthcare technology (p20) to SMEs (p50) to building airline relationships (p38). And we continue to host live events that bring value to our travel buyer community (p17-18). Anyway, what about more down-to-earth things – like champagne and glittering trophies? Yes, unbelievably it’s time to start thinking about the 2017 Business Travel Awards. Crafting that winning entry does take time and effort, but you know it’s worth it – and easier if you start now. See p44 for all the details.

Good luck!
