News Hallmark acquires Embrace care home
Hallmark Care Homes has acquired Ty Porth, a former Embrace Group care home in Rhondda Cynon Taf in South Wales. The new home is the 17th to join the Hallmark family and will represent a proud addition for the care organisation that currently provides residential, dementia and nursing care to over 1000 people across England and Wales. The sale of Ty Porth, which provides care
to 80 residents and has a compliant CSSIW rating, was handled by Christie & Co and received significant interest from other care operators. Avnish Goyal, managing director, Hallmark
Care Homes, says: “Ty Porth Care Home is an excellent care home that shares Hallmark Care
Homes’ values and commitment to delivering high quality relationship centred care. “We are delighted that Ty Porth has joined the Hallmark family of homes and we look forward to getting to know the residents, team members, friends and relatives in the coming months.” Martin Gould, head of brokerage for care at Christie & Co, says: “We’re delighted Hallmark Care Homes has acquired the business, further expanding its presence in Wales where it has been operating for 20 years. The sale reflects the demand in Wales for care homes with strong occupancy levels that serve the local community well. We wish Hallmark all the best with the new acquisition.”

Larkfleet starts work on retirement homes
Larkfleet Homes has started construction work on a ‘continuing care retirement community’ (CCRC) in Oakham, Rutland. It will provide 62 one and two bedroom homes for ‘independent living’, 54 properties for ‘assisted living’ for people with particular care needs and a 60-bed specialist care home for people with dementia. The CCRC is part of Larkfleet’s Oakham
Heights development – a major urban expansion of Oakham being built on land between the Oakham bypass and Barleythorpe Road. The independent living retirement village will be developed under Larkfleet’s award-
winning ‘The Croft’ brand. Larkfleet’s first development under the brand at Bourne won a Silver Award in the keenly-contested Best Retirement Development category in the prestigious WhatHouse? Awards in 2014. The following year The Croft at Baston was shortlisted for the same award and was named runner-up in the HouseBuilder Awards for best retirement housing. In total, more than 800 high quality homes – including ‘affordable’ homes for local people – will eventually be constructed in several phases at Oakham Heights as part of a development programme running until around 2027.

very grateful to be honoured in this way. Really, it is a tribute to the dedication and commitment of my team and colleagues at CQC who work so hard to improve the quality of life of people using adult social care services, their families and carers. I would like to thank everyone at CQC for making this possible and my husband David, my mum and dad, family and friends for their support, love and understanding. Andrea joined CQC in October 2013 where she leads on the regulation and inspection of adult social care services in England, including care homes and domiciliary care. Last year, she led the completion of the initial round of comprehensive inspections of these services, which for the first time were rated ‘outstanding’, ‘good’, ‘requires improvement’ or ‘inadequate’. Andrea is also responsible for the
registration team supporting all health and care sectors, and in collaboration with many others had a key role in the development of Quality Matters, the adult social care sector wide commitment to quality, which launched in July 2017. Prior to becoming chief inspector of adult
social care, Andrea was chief executive of the Social Care Institute for Excellence (SCIE) and before that, chief executive of the Appointments Commission.
