l Tamsin Oswald and David Tate, consultant microbiologists at Northumbria, have agreed to step up to have the debate on positive urine dip/culture and the decision of whether to give antibiotics or cancel scheduled primary/revision surgery, followed by participation of the audience after the debate and vote.
l Annie Laverty, clinical director, patient experience, Northumbria, will present “Top Tips for Improvement in Trauma and Orthopaedics”.
l Jeff Brown, consultant anaesthetist from Northern Ireland, will present his work on “Improving Rates of Normothermia – looking at Non-invasive Solutions for Core Temperature”.
l Mike Reed on day two will be presenting on the evidence for ring fencing of beds and use of Betadine lavage for infection prevention. He will be jointly presenting alongside Annie Laverty.

l Ajay Malviya, consultant orthopaedic surgeon, will be delivering his talk on the MSSA screening pre-operatively initiative at Northumbria.
l Richard Holleyman, specialist registrar at Northumbria, will be delivering two talks over the day on “Risk factors for development of deep infection following primary hip and knee surgery” and also on “Risk factors for development of deep infection following hip fracture surgery”.
l Martin Marsh, specialist registrar at Northumbria, will be presenting on “High dose dual antibiotic cement and the effect it has on hip hemiarthroplasty infection
Northumbria will again be hosting a gala dinner on the evening of Tuesday 18 October and the team are excited to have secured Claire Lomas as the after dinner speaker.
