Drinking Drinking

WHEN THE SUN sets early and that Pacific Ocean breeze blows in, it’s time to head for the flames. These bars are keeping us warm with roaring fireplaces and seasonal cocktails.

á The Wellesbourne Lined with stocked bookshelves, wood-paneled

booths and a roaring fireplace, the Wellesbourne is your booziest library dream come to life. TRY: The Egg Nog Blue Blazer ($20) is a fireworks show of a drink. Blending three different rums with house-made eggnog, the cocktail is lit on fire, then sprinkled with nutmeg, cinnamon and clove dust. à 10929 W Pico Blvd (310-474-0102, thewellesbourne.com)

Cafeteria Within the historic Downtown L.A. building, a fireplace flickers below a fake, gigantic redwood tree inside the Monarch Bar. TRY: The Gimme S’more ($14) is like a hot chocolate for grown- ups. Tequila, Kahlúa, hot cocoa and cayenne pepper are topped with boozy whipped cream, a marshmallow, cocoa and Bacardi 151, which is then lit on fire. à 648 S Broadway (213-627-1673, cliftonsla.com)

á Monarch Bar at Clifton’s Let’s get lit!

There’s nothing like a cozy fireplace— and some quality booze—to keep you toasty this season. By Erin Kuschner

ß Nelson’s at Terranea The fire-pit–studded restaurant

in Rancho Palos Verdes is seriously romantic. Sip by the flames with your significant other, and try not to shack up at the adjoining resort. TRY: The Marine Layer ($15) mixes Mount Gay Black Barrel rum with rosemary demerara syrup and a hoppy pale ale. à 100 Terranea Way, Rancho Palos Verdes (310-265-2836, terranea.com/ palos-verdes-dining)

á Sassafras Nursing a cocktail by the

fireplace at this New Orleans– themed bar puts us in a notably warm and fuzzy mood. TRY: The Italian Job ($13) embodies the season in a glass with Caña Brava rum, Fernet- Branca, ginger, honey and lime, plus a caramelized pineapple. à 1233 N Vine St (323-467-2800, sassafrashollywood.com)

Hatchet Hall Head to the back of Culver City’s Hatchet Hall for a cocktail at this rustic bar featuring taxidermy and a crackling fireplace. TRY: The Tropical Toddy ($12) from bartender Matt Bone keeps us warm with bourbon, gin, vanilla syrup, honey, pimiento dram and lemon. à 12517 W Washington Blvd, Culver City (310-391-4222, hatchethallla.com)
