show review | 2016 Netstal focuses on fast precision


Netstal unveiled its 750 tonne Elios 7500-4200 machine at the show, claiming that it sets a new standard in terms of performance in this clamp capacity for thin wall packag- ing producers.


The machine is claimed to


offer a dry cycle time of 1.9s. It ran throughout the show producing 2.8g domed lids in PP on a 24+24 cavity stack mould running a 3.9s cycle. “Our main intention was to


close this target audience’s gaping performance hole on the market in the clamping force range of 7,500kN,” said Markus Dal Pian, Netstal’s Vice President Sales & Marketing. “We did not merely want to build a very fast machine. Instead, we also wanted to

offer the high precision, reliability and cost effective- ness that the Netstal brand is known for.”


The machine uses a hybrid drive system. The five point


toggle clamp is opened and closed using a servo-driven rack and pinion arrangement while final locking is hydraulic. Plasticising is electric while injection uses a twin-valve


hydraulic system. Energy recovery is built in. Netstal said the new machine design is available in 650 and 750 tonne versions immediately, 450 and 550 tonne versions will be introduced during 2017. The company also showed


the latest version of its Axos control system. Axos 8 uses a new graphical interface with customisable page headers and dashboard. The newly designed component manager offers a graphical overview of the entire injection moulding system and allows direct access to all installed compo- nents. Piovan gets smart with Winfactory 4.0


Piovan’s key focus for K2016 was on Smart Manufacturing, with four new products on display that allow customers to make the move into Industry 4.0 production. The first, and perhaps the most


immediately significant, is its Winfactory 4.0 production supervision system. This is designed to allow processors with existing equipment to make the move into the Industry 4.0 environment without the need to reinvest. It uses OPC-UA interfacing to allow connection between Piovan and third party equipment, whether it be a moulding machine, robot or a smartphone. Winfactory 4.0 is built on the expertise


gained from the existing Winfactory software (Piovan Chief Marketing Officer Giorgio Santella says the company has 1,500 systems in operation), but extended and shaped for Industry 4.0 application. It supports up to 800 inputs, for instance, compared to 80. However, Santella

emphasises that Winfactory 4.0 is industrial – and hence affordable – software. The system is available in four basic


configurations tailored to specific industry requirements: automotive, medical, PET and film. These can be supplemented with additional modules such as energy management and mobile reporting. The company also introduced three new


items of equipment with fully integrated OPC-UA interfacing and enhanced on-board process evaluation and auto-adapt capabilities. These include a Digitemp EVO thermochiller, Genesys high efficiency PET dryer, and Quantum E blender. “These are our first cyber-physical models,” said Santella. “To turn any equipment into a cyber-physical system is not easy. We have to rethink them and decide what is the benefit. These first three systems have a real benefit.” ❙ www.piovan.com
