news European PVC recycling up 7%

VinylPlus, the European PVC industry sustainable develop- ment programme, recycled 514,913 tonnes of PVC last year, up by 7%. The results were presented at its fourth Vinyl Sustainability Forum, which took place in Vienna, Austria in late April. In addition to the increase in

recycling – on the way to a target of 800,000 tonnes/year in 2020 – the other notable success was the complete replacement of lead-based

US machine shipments up in 2015

North American shipments of plastics machinery rose for the sixth year in succession in 2015, according to statistics from the US Society of the Plastics Industry (SPI) trade association’s Committee on Equipment Statistics (CES). Shipments of primary equipment for reporting companies in 2015 reached $1.29bn, a gain of 4.8% compared with the total from 2014. New bookings of ancillary equipment were up 13.2% compared with 2014. “Market conditions

should remain strong in 2016, but the pace of growth in the shipments data is expected to decelerate after six years of strong expan- sion,” said report author Bill Wood. ❙ www.plasticsindustry.org

journey that saw close coopera- tion along the value chain to solve technical constraints.” VinylPlus reaffirmed its

stabilisers in the EU-28 market. Products made from virgin PVC resin by European converters no longer contain any lead. VinylPlus General Manager Brigitte Dero, presenting the

2015 results, said: “Undoubt- edly, the highlight of the year for VinylPlus was the replace- ment of lead-based stabilisers in the EU-28 by the end of 2015. This concluded a challenging

commitment to addressing the issue of ‘legacy additives’ in recycled PVC in cooperation with regulatory authorities and is calling to propose realistic solutions for the continuation and development of PVC recycling, taking into account its resource efficiency benefits, it said. ❙ www.vinylplus.eu

of the former Teknor Apex UK business. This deal included the Beetle PA product line and some engineering PET compounds, as well as customer lists. In April this year, Petlon

completed installation of its latest compounding line at the site, bringing total capacity to 20,000 tonnes/year. The investment included “substan-

tial investments” in R&D, with Petlon Managing Director Mark Clayton (who joined Petlon Polymers last year from Teknor Apex UK) saying that this is “increasing our capacity to facilitate future growth and increasing capability to better serve our customers with tailor-made engineering plastic compounds”. ❙ www.petlon.co.uk
