NEWS Countdown to the 24th NAMC


The 24th edition of the North American Mushroom Conference will be held June 21- 23 in the Fairmont le Château Frontenac hotel in historical Quebec City, Canada. Theme of this edition is ‘Growing By Historic Proportions’.


Conference


The conference will touch on trends and innovations that impact mushroom far- ming directly. There will be talks about sustainability and technology and how we can improve daily operations while limi- ting waste. And there will be two panels and a keynote that focus on the future of mushroom production employees and The Blend. The official program opens at 6 pm on Wednesday, June 21, with a Welcome Reception.


Here is a list of speakers: Dr Robert Beelman – A healthy future for mushrooms. Robin Bender – Mental health in the workplace. Dr Carolee Bull – Developing pipelines for the next generation of mushroom researchers. Jim Carroll – Keynote speaker on the future.


Dr Ofer Danai and Dubi Raz – Drip irrigation in mushroom farming. Hugo de Lasa – Integrated biomass gasification. Jeff Dlott – Mushroom sustainability. S. Giorgio, J. Glenn, A. Hamer and E. Miller – Attracting, training and retaining Millennials.


Rajiv Jaggi and Dr Mark Lang – Marketing The Blend. Dr Ruby Lee – Best practises of Listeria. Jack Lemmen – Odour reduction for composting facilities. Ray Samp – Practical application of the pinning process.


Expo


The sold out Expo in the hotel will show- case the best of the industry’s products and services. Activities inside the Expo


include the welcome reception, meals and networking opportunities where a steady stream of traffic will connect exhibitors with conference goers. Representatives from farms and companies across Canada, the United States and throughout the international mushroom community will interact during the conference. Some nine Dutch companies have registered, as well as two Chinese suppliers.


Companion program


The NAMC offers a companion program as well, on June 22. Companions will partici- pate in an interactive cooking, cocktail and wine tasting session that ‘will have you cooking and drinking like a true Quebecois’.


Participants can create their own savoury and sweet tapas, taste delicious wine pai- red with local varieties of cheese and learn how to assemble the perfect cocktail. The chefs, mixologists and sommeliers at Ateliers & Saveurs will make sure com-


panions have a festive and unforgettable experience.


Quebec City


Designated a World Heritage treasure by UNESCO, Old Quebec is the only walled city north of Mexico. As the cradle of French civilization in North America, its full of a remarkable mix of architecture, heritage, art, and culture. The friendly atmosphere and good-natured locals add to the European charm.


The last day of the conference falls on the Eve of Jean Baptiste Day, a day of celebra- tion in Quebec with rock and jazz concerts, street festivals and parades.The fireworks display will be the perfect way to round out the conference for those who wish to attend!
