spawn that is made with grain.
New vessel The extension of the spawn plant, worth 1.6 million euro, consists of extra space built just besides the existing cooking tower, with an all newly designed stainless steel 3000 litres vessel (there are two 2000 litres vessels in the ‘old’ tower). Another ex- tension with an extra vessel is possible within the space of the new tower. New water, slurry and dry grain tanks have also been built. Amycel works on a next step, including new incubation rooms, coo- ling facilities, and semi-automatic bagging. With the new cooking vessel, the current capacity of 11 million litres of spawn per year, will grow to 17 million litres. “We can now make all our spawn for Europe, Africa and the Middle East in Vendô- me.” Not only will capacity increase when produc- tion starts in week 26, the plant can be even more flexibile then it is now, and easily switch between different kinds of spawn making. “As soon as one batch has been innoculated, a new one can be started up.” Hay is not worried about the expan- sion of other spawn producers in Europe. “We have confidence in our new products and our own market approach.”

After the tour, the Dutch group visited Castle Marechal Rochambeau for some wine tasting. On 20 June, a large group of guests from France, Italy and Spain were expected. If the latter were in for a soccer game on tv can be doubted… ◗
