permanent exhibition and a presentation and reception area in the stalk. The chairman of the ZLTO Mushroom Group, Ko Hooijmans - ‘who also started with a fork in his hands’ (according to Huys) – briefly sketched the illustrious history of mushroom growing in the Netherlands. Hooij- mans: “In the 1990s there were 500 mushroom farms in the country, jointly producing 275 million kg. There are 140 still operating, with joint production of 250 million kg. The sector is small, but strong.” He mentioned good initiatives such as Fair Produce, organising the DNP, the Mushroom Days and the ISMS 2016, and the starring role of mushrooms at Floriade 2012. The pavilion is an excellent addition to the list. Patrick van der Broeck, member of the Provincial Executive of the province of Limburg, emphasised the importance of mushroom growing for the north Limburg region, and the municipality of Horst. “The museum also recounts the history of the local residents and the region, and this is certainly the place for a mu- seum. This pavilion is the leading expertise centre on the history of mushroom growing. You can’t know where you’re going unless you know where you come from”, concluded Van der Broeck. He then presented Clabber with a gift.
Pleasant, to the point and positive The company then walked the sort distance to the im- pressive mushroom pavilion. Against the backdrop of the glass facade, some mushrooms were symbolically cut by way of opening, and the mayor of Horst aan de Maas, Mr Van Rooij, was presented with the key to the building. With a glass of champagne to celebrate, the guests could finally admire the results of all the years

of hard work. The pavilion displays several important stages of the cultivation process, some machinery and mushroom products with the explanatory texts deli- berately as short as possible. It will not fill a whole day, but thanks to the round shapes, tasteful colours and light interior, visitors can come away with a pleasant and positive image of our sector in a short space of time. There is a reading corner with back numbers of De Champignoncultuur and the presentation area with catering facilities. Outside is an old filling machine and casing soil train, donated by Topterra. Well worth a visit! ◗
