Forget that dyeing-the-river-green nonsense— Beverly is adamant that this is the city’s real St. Patrick’s Day celebration, where Chicagoans of all ages come together as a community to watch bagpipers, Irish dancers, marching bands, Clydesdales, vintage fire trucks and, of course, leprechauns.

Memorial Day Parade If you’re not scooting off to


a lake house for the holiday weekend, head down to State Street. The 147-year-old parade, which honors those who gave their lives for our country, is considered one of the largest of its kind. à State St and Lake St, 200 N Lake St (cityofchicago.org). Do Division Street Fest An annual local favorite,


this 10-block Wicker Park event marks the beginning of summer on the West Side. Do Division brings together a huge spread of Chicago-based vendors, restaurants and live music (booked by Empty Bottle and Subterranean). à Division St between Damen Ave and Wood St (630-470-0044, do-division streetfest.com).
