Enid Blyton’s books have sold over 600 million copies worldwide and have been translated into more than 80 languages. Tey have brought joy to generations of children and continue to be classroom and bedtime favourites. Blyton lived at Old Tatch from 1929 to
1938, but even after she moved, the house and local area continued to inspire her: Te Faraway Tree, Brer Rabbit, Te Adventures of the Wishing Chair and the Secret Island were just some of the books written while she lived there. Blyton also wrote a series of Old Tatch books, one based around a girl called Gillian (the name of her eldest daughter) and her adventures in the surrounding area. Tese were published during the 1930’s. Her 1943 book Te Mystery of the Burnt Cottage, published after she had moved away, features the house.
