SPECIAL FOCUS LAB DESIGN

InterFocus has been supplying laboratory furniture for almost 30 years. A CLEAR FOCUS Here, we discover more about the company’s background and its latest success stories.

InterFocus is a specialist laboratory furniture manufacturing company, founded by Chris Cannon in 1988, and has since progressed to become one of the foremost laboratory furniture suppliers in the UK. The privately owned, family-run business is based just outside of Cambridge and is best known for its remarkable capability to design, create and install comprehensive laboratory environments.

InterFocus’ Company Director, Marcus Cannon, said: “When using InterFocus, our clients can make considerable financial savings by not employing outside consultants, building companies and contractors, and this is an offering that really sets us apart from our competitors.

“With our turnkey service, the client has just one point of contact for the entire project, and our products have been made to provide longevity in laboratory areas.

“We strive to provide the most complete lab design and build service in the country, and we can achieve this with our UK-based manufacturing facility using the latest equipment.”

The turnkey package is generally appropriate for clients with an empty building or those repurposing existing buildings that require implementation of new facilities, offices and mechanical and electrical systems

Ranging from £2,000 to £3-4million, InterFocus’ turnkey solutions have been employed across the country for a pool of prestigious clients, such as Thornton & Ross, South East Water, Welsh Water, EuroFins and Avacta, amongst others.

In addition to providing complete turnkey solutions for its clients, InterFocus has worked for many well-known construction companies (such as Kier, Balfour Beatty and VINCI) and esteemed educational establishments (including Cambridge and Oxford University), providing both laboratory refurbishment and new- build laboratory fit-out solutions.

CASE STUDY:

SOUTH EAST WATER When a new water testing facility for South East Water was needed, InterFocus was called upon to provide an attractive and effective furniture solution for the laboratory in Southwood, Farnborough.

The water provider had acquired a new commercial building on an

industrial estate which was previously used as a print works by its former occupants. InterFocus was appointed to design and build a solution that provided new analytical laboratories and administration offices along with associated plant and services for the building in order for South East Water to get UKAS accreditation for their analytical services.

The water testing facility now employs around 65 members of scientific and support staff who work around the clock, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, to provide support to South East Water in its goal to supply 2.1 million people with top-quality drinking water via a network of pipes that are more than 14,500km long.

Hundreds of samples a day are taken from customers’ taps, reservoirs and boreholes for their scientists to check for any unseen contaminants that could affect the quality of their water supply.

In addition to South East Water, the new Orion laboratory facility also supports a wide range of businesses which include other water companies, blue chip firms, environmental health organisations, private water providers and building maintenance companies by providing high quality analytical services to suit their individual requirements.
