LAB INNOVATIONS 2016 PREVIEW
BUSINESS SCIENCE AND INNOVATION THEATRE
New for 2016, Lab Innovations will host a brand new theatre, addressing some of the hottest topics affecting business, science and innovation. With so many developments happening across sectors, the sessions have been put together by show partners who are at the forefront of business development and research. These include the Science Council, a membership organisation for professional bodies and learned societies across the disciplines of science. Other contributors include the BMTA, the body representing the interests of the measurement and testing industry in the UK and in Europe, and NetComposites, the country’s leading independent provider of expert services relating to composite materials.
The Science Council believes every scientist and science technician has a responsibility to society to work with integrity, keep their skills and knowledge up to date and consider how their efforts affect the world around them. Belinda Phipps, CEO at Science Council, will deliver her keynote session which will explore if this is something that the public can be assured of: ‘Is there a risk to the public’s trust in scientists?’
Visitors to this theatre will also be able to attend an interactive workshop with Dr. Katherine Forsey, HEaTED Manager, which will provide advice and guidance on professional development for technicians.
The Gatsby Foundation will be giving a unique insight into its ‘Technicians Make it Happen’ campaign, which aims to celebrate technicians and encourage more young people into pursuing a technical career. This informative session will allow attendees to find out more about the campaign and meet some of the technicians involved.
For those interested in the world of composites, Dr Ben Hargreaves, Consultancy Manager at NetCompsites Ltd, will give ‘An Introduction to Polymer Nanocomposites’ while Jon Mabbitt, CEO at Applied Graphene Materials, will discuss ‘Finding a Home for Graphene in Advanced Composite Applications’.
The British Measurement and Testing Association will also be hosting its previously sold-out conference in the theatre, which is at a discounted price for all attendees. For those interested in essential industry updates on ISO/IEC 17025, the international standard relating to the management of laboratories and its revision, this conference is for you. Attendees will be informed on the current state in the revision process and the effect of likely changes on UK laboratories from UKAS approved professional speakers.
