Reflecting on the past year, I have an array of 2016 highlights. Alongside the success of our product quality campaign, Arco secured a number of major contracts. Last year also saw growth within the business with enhancements made to the National Distribution Centre (NDC) improving service and delivery capabilities.

Momentum will continue into 2017 - we have had approved planning permission on a new building which will double our warehousing and distribution facilities. Another focus for us is the Arco Ethical campaign – a project that urges businesses to promote ethical trading and ask suppliers within their supply chain about their ethical assurance measures. Arco takes ethical responsibility seriously and hopes to help raise awareness and improve the lives of workers around the globe.

with our apprentices on a regular basis to help guide their journey, hear their feedback and advise wherever I can. My best advice for young, aspiring health and safety executives is to never be afraid to ask questions. I also think encouraging new recruits to challenge the norm, think inventively and be ambitious is important in business. Our apprentices will be part of a highly-skilled workforce in years to come – they are the future of this great business!

The mantra I live, work and succeed by? Work hard, work smart, drive for results and always act customer- first. One of the most valuable lessons I’ve learnt during my time at Arco is to trust your team. You cannot do everything by yourself - you need to lead, inspire and learn from others if you and the business are to be successful. I have also learnt that working for a family business that takes a long-term view, operates using a strong moral code and is underpinned by clear values, is hugely rewarding. This has seen me through my first 27 years at Arco – here’s to many more.
