A DAY IN THE LIFE OF…

In this issue we follow Bryan Lawrie,

Sales & Marketing

Director at Arco, as he talks us through his day-to-day duties, the “There’s No Room

for Doubt” campaign, and the Arco Future Experts Programme.

I first joined the Arco team as a Management Trainee and worked in different areas of a Regional Business Unit. My responsibilities included manning the phones for inbound customer calls and directly communicating with our customers face-to-face. Now, however, my days revolve around performance metrics, KPI’s, strategic initiatives and critically, colleague and customer engagement.

Here and now, my days commence early with a review of key performance metrics on both a customer and commercial basis. These reviews allow us to understand the true needs of our customers and our relative performance against these needs. In order to make sure our strategies align with customer requirements, I continue to meet with customers, both existing and new. I believe this contact with our customers is hugely important, and I personally find it tremendously rewarding.

An exciting campaign currently on our agenda encompasses product quality, formed following our research at the Arco SATRA accredited testing laboratory. At Arco, we have unearthed deep issues about testing and compliance within the PPE marketplace spanning multiple major brands. This campaign, entitled “There’s No Room for Doubt”, allows us to share our findings concerning substandard products found on the market after investigating a variety of retailer samples.

As our tests have indicated, even CE stamped products may not actually be fit for purpose, putting workers in harm’s way. An example of these failures came to light when we performed a number of tests on safety toe caps – it became apparent that most safety footwear using injection moulded plastic toe caps performed significantly worse than fibreglass composite toe caps during compression testing. A worker wearing boots with substandard toe caps such as these risks broken bones, and even amputation. This issue of safety is something both Arco and I feel passionately about. We will continue to run this campaign and alert the public to these findings until we stamp out pseudo-compliancy.

Another venture close to my heart is my role as the project sponsor for the Arco Future Experts Programme. I meet
