WIND SECTOR The second annual incident data report for the offshore wind sector shows that in 2014 the overall Lost Time Injury Frequency (LTIF) decreased by 34% compared to the previous year, while the Total Recordable Injury Rate (TRIR) increased by 3%.
The report has been published by the G9 Offshore Wind Health and Safety Association (G9) and supported by the Energy Institute (EI). The publication gives a comprehensive insight into the health and safety performance of the G9 members from 45 sites spread across the United Kingdom and Northern Europe.

out Notifiable Non-Licensed Work (NNLW) on asbestos.
A worker planning to carry out any NNLW on or after 1st May 2015 must have a medical examination before this work can be commenced, unless the worker has had a suitable examination in the previous three years.
These examinations can be carried out by an appropriate fully registered medical practitioner and must be repeated every three years (or before if advised by the medical practitioner)

To support this call, a brand new practical guide has been launched for employers to support staff affected by dementia. The guide, ‘Creating a dementia-friendly workplace: A practical guide for employers’, sets out the best practice for businesses in light of the fact that one in five (20%) people

Steve Sadley, Chief Executive of the Asbestos Removal Contractors Association (ARCA), said: “For workers in the asbestos removal industry medical vigilance is vitally important due to the serious health issues related to exposure to asbestos. Covering NNLW will provide workers with facts on their health, as well as emphasise to them the importance of control measures and good working practices within the industry.”

Since the first data report was published in 2014, the G9 has expanded the amount and type of data collected to include hours worked, dropped objects, medivacs and emergency response, and also high potential (HiPo) incidents. The hours worked data has also been used to calculate Lost Time Injury Frequency (LTIF) and Total Recordable Injury Rate (TRIR), which can be used to benchmark offshore wind industry performance with other sectors.
This report shows there were a total of 959 reported incidents in 2014. The reported incidents for last year are categorised as follows:
