BATHROOM SAFETY ASSURED AT TOP LONDON

HOTEL Five-star hotel The Ampersand in South Kensington, London, has called in the anti-slip experts at Traffik UK to ensure its luxury bathrooms are safe from slip hazards.

Dean Spackman, Engineering Manager at The Ampersand Hotel, is responsible for ensuring that all safety aspects of the hotel are kept in check and recently called in the team at Traffik to look at the levels of safety of the bath tubs in the hotel’s 111 bathroom suites.

He commented: “This is an area which we are constantly monitoring to ensure the upmost safety for our guests and regular anti-slip checks on all bathroom surfaces are part of our regular safety regime. OSHA INVESTIGATES MCDONALD’S AFTER WORKER

COMPLAINTS The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) has launched an investigation into McDonald’s after 28 employees in 19 US cities made complaints about workplace safety.

Hazardous equipment and a lack of protective workwear were among the issues raised by the workers, many of whom said they suffered burns from popping grease and hot grills that had to be cleaned while switched on.

Some workers claimed they were told to treat burns with mustard and mayonnaise instead of medicinal cream.

process which was not only extremely quick but also highly effective.”

Traffik’s range of anti-slip treatments includes PU sealers, bath mats and other coatings, which greatly reduce the chance of accidents by increasing the slip resistance of wet surfaces. The company’s anti-slip treatment used at The Ampersand Hotel is not a coating but a semi-permanent alteration to the surface of the tiles creating a micro tread within the surface of the baths which provides more grip.

The bath treatment is applied non-disruptively and is effective immediately – all the bathrooms at the Ampersand were completed in one day causing no disruption to room occupancy. Traffik’s non-slip treatment does not wear out and lasts for many years and is also suited for use on stone, ceramic and porcelain bathroom floors, showers and wet rooms meeting pendulum values in excess of 36+ in the wet.

In response to the allegations, McDonald’s spokeswoman Heidi Barker Sa Shekhem said: “McDonald’s and its independent franchisees are committed to providing safe working conditions for employees in the 14,000 McDonald’s Brand U.S. restaurants.”

She added that McDonald’s is reviewing the complaints.

Randy Rabinowitz, a health and safety legal expert who was hired by the Fight for $15 campaign, told Associated Press that OSHA had begun inspecting the restaurants cited by workers in the past week or so, and that the agency has six months to issue any necessary citations.
