10 QUESTIONS

In each issue we ask an FM professional the Tomorrow’s FM 10 Questions, this month we spoke to Neil Ricketts, Technical Services Director at Trigion.

10 QUESTIONS WITH... Q6

WHAT DID YOU WANT TO BE WHEN

YOU WERE GROWING UP?

I’d probably say a footballer. If I could have played in goal for Tottenham I’d have been very happy.

Q3

Q4 Q5

WHAT WAS YOUR FIRST JOB?

I was an apprentice security engineer at Premier Alarms.

HOW DID YOU GET INTO THE FACILITIES

MANAGEMENT INDUSTRY?

I’d always had an appetite for engineering and the job was a good way of getting a start in electronics.

WHO, IN ANY OTHER INDUSTRY,

DO YOU MOST ADMIRE?

My first boss, Vince Humphries. I wouldn’t be where I am now without him.

IF MONEY WAS NO OBJECT, WHAT

CAR WOULD YOU BUY?

I don’t have to think about that one; I’d get a vintage AC Cobra.

HOW WOULD YOU IMPROVE

THE FACILITIES MANAGEMENT INDUSTRY?

I’d like to see more facilities managers giving security the priority it should have, especially in current times.

WHAT DO YOU DO TO UNWIND?

If it ever happens I’ll let you know. Perhaps, when I retire.

IF YOU COULD HOST A DINNER

PARTY WITH ANY THREE GUESTS, DEAD OR ALIVE, WITH A FOURTH COOKING AND A FIFTH PROVIDING THE MUSIC, WHO WOULD

THEY BE AND WHY? My guests would be Peter Sellers, Spike Milligan and Harry Secombe, also known as The Goons. The evening couldn’t fail to be entertaining with them there. I’d like Keith Floyd to cook the meal, he was quite a character and would certainly add to the fun of the evening, as well as supplying great food (and the odd drink). Finally, to add a touch of class to the evening, I’d like Nina Simone to provide the entertainment.

Q9

WHAT DO YOU THINK IS

THE FUTURE OF THE FACILITIES MANAGEMENT

INDUSTRY? The industry is always striving for efficiencies and I think that will continue. For instance, we are very good at applying existing technologies to meet on-site requirements. With new technology also being developed and introduced, it’s an exciting time to be working in the sector.

Q10

MARK STYLES, MANAGING

DIRECTOR AT THOMANN- HANRY ASKED: WHAT’S THE WORST DISASTER YOU’VE EVER HAD AT WORK AND HOW DID

YOU DEAL WITH IT? My worst disaster was my first disaster; on day two of my apprenticeship I managed to drill through a water pipe in someone’s house. As if that wasn’t bad enough my boss made me sit covering the hole for two hours while each member of the family took a shower.
