Having manufactured underlay for over half a century, Interfloor has built up a well-


established reputation as the supplier for the businesses and homes of for Britain. Here, we take a look at the company’s history and how they’ve got to where they are today.


Interfloor is built on a rich British manufacturing heritage which includes two of the UK’s oldest brands: Duralay and Tredaire.

Victoria plc group of companies, was created by the merger of Tredaire and Duralay in 2002 but its heritage dates back to the 1940s when Duralay began manufacturing the first carpet underlays in the UK. Now, with approximately 1000 flooring and accessories products in its portfolio, this award-winning flooring manufacturer is a ‘one-stop- shop’ for installations demanding the highest quality and standards.


Interfloor can trace its roots back to the earliest hand weaving companies which evolved into the modern flooring industry, currently employing over 6,000 people and generating over £950m.


Today, Interfloor supplies more than 400 customers in over 70 countries from its manufacturing sites in Lancashire and Scotland. Many popular hotels across the world, as well as numerous mosques, cinemas, casinos and airports regularly use Interfloor underlays.


Earlier this year, Interfloor scooped two top prizes in the prestigious Export Excellence Awards 2016 ceremony winning the ‘Innovation in Exporting’ and ‘Exporting Excellence in MENA’ categories, as well as competing for the overall title of ‘Exporter of the Year’.

Now, Interfloor has refreshed its heritage underlay brand, Duralay, aiming to be the contractors’ brand of choice. Tredaire has also been updated and more contemporary-styled marketing materials, including a new foot tester, are being introduced to

Both Duralay Durafit 500 and Duralay Durafit 650 deliver all-round performance in even the toughest environments. Improved dimensional stability has been engineered thanks to exclusive Bacloc backing and higher bonding achieved with a range of new double-stick Duralay adhesives including: DS950 Tackifier; DS900 Double stick Carpet Adhesive; DS400 Very Low Emission Carpet Adhesive; and DS300 Fast Grab Multi-purpose.

MACCLESFIELD As Interfloor has grown over the years, it has built up a large customer base of loyal contractors and retailers. One of these customers is the famous furniture store Arighi Bianchi, which has stood in Macclesfield, Cheshire, for 160 years.

Originally launched in the 1950s, Duralay was the world’s first crumb rubber underlay and now the heritage brand has had a refresh to reflect its world-class reputation and highlight its green credentials.


Manufactured at Interfloor’s Lancashire site using only top-quality crumb rubber, Durafit is a trusted underlay system for large and small installations in heavy-wear areas such as hotel receptions and corridors, airports and offices. For over 30 years, it's been used for prestigious carpet installations worldwide and is considered by many carpet manufacturers and contractors as a leading contract flooring underlay system. To date, over 24 million square metres has been sold.


Founded in 1854 by Italian immigrants Antonio Arighi and Antonio Bianchi, the impressive store is home to over 70,000 sq ft of space showcasing the very finest carpets, beds, sofas, dining and living room furniture, curtains, bed linen and accessories.


On the Arighi Bianchi team for 20 years, Neville Hinchliffe started managing the flooring department six years ago and set about finding an underlay supplier that would be a match for the highly- respected retailer’s own quality and service offering.
